What I love about this is the fact people are placing so much value on Beltran, I was looking at his numbers and Cameron's numbers and Beltran isnt all that much better if at all in most categories.
Now Cameron was drafted in 91, didnt see MLB playing time until 95 but I dont believe they consider playing 38 games in two seasons, two actual seasons on his career. If so then Cameron has played 8 seasons and Beltran 7, who was drafted in 95, saw 14 games of action in 98 and has been playing ever since.
Cameron has been more consistent in playing time in his career, with over 300 game playing difference between the two. Naturally Cameron's ABs are higher, runs are near the same but Cameron only has about 30 more, Cameron also has more hits, doubles, HRs, RBI, walks, SOs(this isnt a good thing mind you), more stolen bases. Beltran has more triples, a higher BA, higher OBP(not by a whole lot, only .13) and a higher Slg %(by .50+). Basically what I am getting at is that Beltran has not been all that great over his career if he can barely reach Cameron's numbers, granted he had less playing time but that really isnt Cameron's fault now is it. I just hope the Mets didnt toss money at Beltran's potential and not a proven commodity because he really isnt proven other than for a couple decent seasons and a great playoff run.
