The formers Ottawa Senators, Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks and Philadelphia Flyers goaltender reportedly went swimming with some friends and never returned.

The controversial ex-NHL goaltender was perhaps best known for being one of the toughest netminders in NHL history. I mean… who can forget when he took on nearly the entire Buffalo Sabres roster during his time with the Sens.

More on this story to come as information becomes available.

UPDATE: Emery had apparently been swimming with friends and family members, but did not return with the group and was declared missing. No word yet on whether or not his body has been recovered by Hamilton police. In the meantime, all we can do is send our thoughts and prayers to Emery's family at this difficult time. Rest in peace Ray Emery. You were just 35 years old. Gone, but never forgotten.

What a terrible tragedy.

I worked with Ray on several occasions and he was one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet.

Ray loved the fact that he was in my Enforcers product due to his several memorable goalie fights.

RIP Ray.

I seem to remember him as being quite a good boxer in his own right. Way too young to be gone.
Rest in peace.
Dan.

Found a picture of Ray with my oldest about 6 years ago. Salt of the earth guy. He was with a group of players training at a local rink int he offseason and while everyone was mobbing the stars in the group Ray just chilled and spoke to my son like he was family. He was a good human, terrible loss.

It took me a while to warm to Ray Emery. But after he ripped on the city of Buffalo, fought Martin Biron, and then Andrew Peters - how couldn't you adore him? RIP indeed.

Seriously, he was LAUGHING while Peters, who is a VERY large human, was punching him. Respect.

I echo some of the above. Never was a fan because of the rival teams he played for, but I definitely respected how he played the game and how he was a never back down kind of guy. Biggest goon on Buffalo wants to fight me? Lets go then. That is one of the most memorable Sabres games of my time so far, will never forget it.
