It turns out it wasn't mono, but some sort of intestinal disorder. TMZ reported this morning he's going to the Mayo Clinic, and Dana White's said that it's not HIV or Cancer, and he may never fight again:

The link itself is safe...just remember though that TMZ itself is probably LSFW, so browse the rest with caution if you're at work.

Yeah from what I have been hearing sounds like he could be done. Intestinal surgery will put him a year behind plus conditioning and training I would suspect. Especially considering the weight/muscle he is likely to lose, which is a big part of his game.

Yep, I'm with you on this one. It's a shame to see a short ultimate fighting career end, but man...if this is it for him and athletics, there aren't many people that have accomplished being an NCAA wrestling champ, made a successful career in both professional wrestling and mixed martial arts and tried out for the NFL all before the age of 30...so hopefully he'll be able to look back on that proudly.

When I originally heard that it was an intestinal problem I immediately thought of Crohn's disease which struck David Garrard of the Jacksonville Jags a number of years ago. That would have been very tough to fight with. Although Some like Garrard and Fernando Pisani have been able to come back and play their sports again with it.

These articles here though make it sound as though it is something different.

I am not a fan of his at all. But you never wish ill upon anybody and hopefully they can treat and heal him of this ailment so that he can get back in the Octagon at some point.

He has diverticulitis which is a disease that creates pockets in the intestine. My mom has/had it and thankfully caught it early and avoided surgery.

Sounds like Brock might have been toughing this out though and has basically has a dead colon. (or at least part of it) which caused a big infection.

Regardless of the severity. The man's fighting career might be over if he requires a colostomy bag. That's probably the least of his worries. Hopefully he pulls though.
