I just got off the phone with Canada Post, after going to two post offices, to find out that to send a $500 card to the states with Insurance and signature proof of delivery is going to cost over $60! Can you believe it? Xpresspost you can get insurance coverage but No signature proof. Registered mail give you signature proof but a maximum of $60 insurance. Unbelievable. You have to basically go International Overnight to get both, hence the $60. Is it me or is this really the only option? I've got a card to go out to a guy who has a bit of a "reputation", so I want to be safe. I collected $19 US for shipping thinking that would be enough. Now, I'm not sure. I'm thinking Xpresspost for $24.19, but no signature proof goes against Paypal policy. What would you do? Any other suggestions?

I think you might have to just eat the cost. It would be better then eating the cost of the card going missing. It's crappy but it might be your best option.

Try purolator or UPS.

Ive put signature and insurance of $100 on small items before, it must be something that came into affect recently?

Try Expedited. I believe it's a little bit more expensive that XPRESSPOST, but I am pretty sure it comes with signature confirmation and insurance.

Fedex: $50.12
UPS: $28.10

As much as I hate using UPS, because they gouge on brokerage fees for stuff coming to me. It looks like the way to go.

Yeah, you would have to use Priority Worldwide to get signature with that much insurance. And yes, it's expensive. Too bad the USPS doesn't use the Canada Post method of reverting to a USPS over label like Canada Post does for the USPS items. An item sent via USPS Priority International or Express International gets a Canada Post over label put on it that requires a signature, Priority International becomes Xpresspost, Express International becomes like Priority Next AM (EMS actually as it's originating outside of Canada). It uses the same exact tracking number too which allows you to track the package from either USPS.com or Canadapost.ca.
