Capitals sign Chara, 1 yr $795K

At least its a Cap Friendly signing. :D

As a Caps fan, I am not really sure how I feel on the signing. The Caps now have 8 defensemen signed for the season and it thinks this puts them right back up against the cap limit. I thought I heard somewhere that the league is going to require teams to carry 3 goalies in case of covid, so I wonder will be out to make room for a 3rd goalies salary.

I'm very upset by Chara leaving Boston. I don't believe the Bruins when they say they're giving the spot to Zboril or Vaakanainen, not when there's talk of adding Karl Alzner. No offense to Alzner, but why would anyone opt for him over Chara?

I hope we don't have a Sinden/Cherry thing going on, where management became jealous and did something self-defeating.

I feel this is a great signing for the Caps. The price and risk is minimal and if anything, Chara will help add depth and experience to an already solid blue line.

I'm not sure of all the details, but there's a system of taxi squad, with a few back-up players not counting on the salary cap.
