Captain America Lives! Hero to Return in 2008

NEW YORK — You can't keep a good American down.

Marvel Entertainment announced Thursday that its slain hero Captain America will rise again with a new outfit and a new secret identity, after the character was killed off in March by a sniper's bullet in a storyline on the War on Terror.

The company unveiled the patriotic superhero's new look Thursday with artwork by Alex Ross and Steve Epting for the new issue, No. 34, to hit comic book shops in January 2008.

Captain America will return with his trademark shield, but he also will have some new firepower. The artists are bringing the hero back with a gun.

"I always try and look back in the character's history to something that maybe was a forgotten costume element from a bygone age, maybe one of the earlier costume elements, to see if you could bring that part back," Ross told Marvel.com. "Well, funny enough, there's this awful movie serial made in the '40s with Cap where he had no shield, no wings on his mask, no white sleeves, little tiny gloves, and he carried a gun."

Captain America Reborn While the famed hero is returning to fight the good fight, Marvel made clear that the original character, Steve Rogers, remains dead. A yet-to-be-revealed character will don this new Captain America suit.

In March, Dan Buckley, the president and publisher of Marvel Entertainment's publishing group, told FOXNews.com that Captain America's return was a possibility.

Hey...back in the day Cap and Bucky were often pictured with machine guns.

This actually is going very far back to their roots.

Though I doubt Marvel is bright enough to have planned it that way.

They're just trying to gun him up and make him more modern and edgy.

And it's probably Winter Soldier/Bucky.

Loves me some Alex Ross art though.
 
Bucky is already back as the Winter soldier. Marvel has the whole Skrull thing happening right now which was revealed in New Avengers 31 & 32. My best guess is that the Capt America who caught the bullet in Capt 25 was a Skrull replacement.

a part of me hopes that not even Marvel is so cheap as to do that...but another part of me thinks you could be right...a different part of me just wants Marvel to let somebody stay dead for more than a few months.

besides, I hear the Beyonder is going to wake up and everything since Secret Wars is going to have been a dream.
 
I still think the infinity stones will be some how tied in and everything will be turned back...ALA Dallas and the season that was a dream.
 
Well my fave theory...and it's not quite as crappy as Cap having been a Skrull or Bucky being the new Cap is Cap from the past staying in the present after the Invaders/Avengers x-over coming up.

I could handle that.
 
How many times I gotta say it? Not a superhero gets snuffed that doesn't shake it off like a bad cold.

Certainly not a flagship like Cap.

Well, Steve Rogers is dead.

So the character himself remains its just someone else in the suit.

Which is fine with me.
 
Steve was dead before.....way back, he returned (or did he). With the new Marvel you just never know. I am still leaning towards the whole Steve was replaced with a Skrull theory. Time will tell.
