Carey Price SPGU question

Looking at the sold auctions (Carey Price Authentic Rookies) on ebay, on the whole the standard authentic rookie numbered to 99 sell for more than the parallels (gold & spectrum).

I'm curious why this would be the case. Being primarily a baseball collector, I don't really recall seeing this.

My only guess is set collectors collecting the authentic rookies #'d to 99 & increasing the demand.

Is my assumption correct or am I missing something here?

The set collectors is part of it, but, for the most part, hockey collectors want the "true" base set RC's of players.

The other gold, and spectrum-type cards are not considered rookies but parallels. Sure they are valuable, but are not a rookie card.

Case in point. I collect LA Kings and I could have a Kopitar The Cup Gold RC parallel numbered to noly 11 for about half of what I can get the regular rookie patch autograph numbered to 99 for.

It's funny, it's actually the opposite in most other sports. Weird huh?

Wow! That is weird especially when I'm so acccustomed to baseball collecting ways particularly when dealing with Bowman Chrome refractors.

Thanks for the info. This is definitely something I need to know if and when I set BIN auctions.
