I would post a video but it contains swears. But just search "chris jericho punches fan" on youtube and its the first video that pops up.

Any, after watching the video, then reading the story, I was confused. I didnt hear any derogatory comments about the guy being asian, nor did i see jericho spit in her face. What I did see was fans becoming to aggressive, and security not doing their jobs.
So I watched the video again more closely. Chris did say something to one of the security guys, but I couldnt make it out properly. From what I can hear he said "Watch this guy, he is an _____" with _____ being from what I can tell the word Igloo? Then the girl jumped in front of him shoving him saying dont talk to my boyfriend like that. I think he may have called her a name but I did not see any spit anywhere, then he (jericho) tries to get into the vehicle when the woman shoves him again. He then punches/shoves her.

I dont think what he did was wrong, everyone has the right to protect themselves, especially when your crowded by people. I probably would have done the same thing.
As for the comments made to the guy, I didnt hear anything wrong. If Jericho did say something, why is the guy getting his girlfriend to stick up for him?
I did hear people going overboard with their comments they were yelling to him. Some people take this entertainment (I say that and not sport for obvious reasons) way to seriously and need to chill out and learn to determine fiction from reality.

I wonder how this plays out.

That was pretty intense. It's kind of tough to see exactly what happened there...but you can definitely get a sense of the environment and why he felt threatened. If he wound up and slugged the woman, that's pretty overboard, but she was certainly up in his face, and like I said, you can't really see exactly what he did to her, whether it was a punch or a shove. Can't really make a call on this one.

Jericho was definitely in the right on this.

When he turns to get back into his car, she either shoved or jumped at him. I'd imagine he just naturally reacted, not really know who behind him he was swinging at.

Security did a terrible job and it's lucky that no one, Jericho included, was seriously hurt. God only knows what would've happened if one of the fans had pulled a weapon.

I went/was convinced to go to the house show here in Vancouver on Friday, and after seeing the type of fans that are watching wrestling nowdays, the incident in Victoria didn't surprise me. It has nothing to do with their intelligence surprisingly enough...I'm not looking to take the low road :p

As recent as 20 years ago, this is exactly what was happening in pro wrestling. Heels (the bad guys) were in constant fear of their lives. If you look at a guy like Terry Funk, he actually keeps knives in his office of attempted stabbings by fans, and one that did actually pierce him. Blackjack Mulligan was almost killed in the ring by a fan that came in and stabbed him in the chest with a 7 inch knife. Wrestling was more of a cover-up operation back then. Some of you might recall an incident with Hacksaw Jim Duggan and the Iron Sheik, who were feuding against each other at the time but caught driving together in possession of cocaine. I'd say of the two, the WWF was probably more worried about the fact that fans knew the two of them were driving together than the fact that they were carrying drugs in the car.

Ok so fast forward 10 years, where wrestling was everywhere and drawing in 12 million people on Mondays between Nitro and RAW. That's when the whole "Sports entertainment" expose happened and there were weekly specials about the business and coverups in pro wrestling. People were educated more about the business then and were better able to separate reality from fantasy.

10 years later...well, I can tell you by looking around that almost nobody at the house show were watching 10 years ago when this happened...a lot were new fans with just the last couple years worth of wrestling tucked under their belts believing John Cena was the greatest wrestler in history. As a result, wrestling in a whole has basically come full circle with the new fans unable to separate the barrier between sport and sport entertainment. Meanwhile, the business itself appears to be trudging along with the same beliefs of 10 years ago that people know all and see all about the wrestling business. Chris Jericho probably shouldn't have been surprised that this was going to happen sooner or later.

Security should be the one to blame here. Where the hell was Ralphus during this altercation?

You win this thread Jon. Lock it

I was pretty sad at the house show when you mentioned Ralphus and nobody but Adam and I knew who he was

he is the old guy he used to have with him on WCW, he would always shake his finger at people for trying to touch jericho right? Would be awesome if he was still with him

It's more indicative of the "reverse evolution" that society seems to be undergoing, if you ask me...

He should have put the Walls of Jericho on her for good measure. I've seen how some of these "fans" act when they meet heel wrestlers. They want to fight them and act all tough because they know there's a mob behind them. Sad...a lot of these "heel" wrestlers are genuinely good guys and deserve better.

Good on Jericho for ticketing this chick into next week. She'll know better than to be an *** next time.

Ralphus was sweet.

Anyway I would have maybe done the same as Jericho. At the time I doubt he knew who shoved him first, maybe he believed it was a guy. The fan really blindsided him.

I heard some people yelling "Your an insult to Canadians Jericho." Definitely fans not realizing wrestling is fake.

Looking at the way WCW handled it's booking back then, it's a wonder Ralphus didn't hold a belt.

They couldn't do it...he became more popular than their other great champions like Vince Russo and David Arquette...so they canned him :o

Have you guys ever read the death of WCW by Bryan Alvarez and the guy from Wrestlecrap? It's a fantastic read. Even if you know about all the politics and such going on backstage in those days, there are some staggering financial statistics in there that make the read worthwhile.

I'll have to check that out, Matt.

Also, though these guys may not be the most sparkling of references, have you seen any of the shoot interviews on youtube/RFVideo? The Hall & Nash one was really funny and insightful--also, it summed up why WCW went in the crapper. Two of your biggest stars only care about the payday, so how are you supposed to succeed?

The Raven shoots were really cool tool. It's easy to dismiss wrestler's intelligence, but Raven is a really smart guy.
