The kid has only played in the playoffs (20 games specifically I think), and has not withstood a whole 82-game season. Lots of things can happen in that time. I understand that he is a good prospect, but maybe a bit too much jumping out of the gates. If there is a lockout though, and no other rookies to use, then his prices will of course go high.

Just my thoughts on these prices.

Yes all in nowadays goes crazy with those rookies...
Especially when only a fraction of those actually became "stars", many bought RC's of players like Zucca & Paajarvi for big bucks for 2years ago and now those sells for a fraction of those prices they bought for 2 years ago.

It's a huge gamble with RC's IMO.
Especially when many young players has already huge problems with injuries nowadays and at their next injury may ending their careers for good....

I still don't understand how many are able to paying insane bucks for cards in the 2-3 last years....
 
That kind of money for a second or third line player who likely won't ever average more than 40pts a season proves that Rangers fans are almost as nutty as Habs fans...LOL
 
Welcome to prospecting 101. Some rookies people spend crazy money on and they pan out some people spend crazy money on players before they even play a game and they don't pan out (paging Angelo Esposito).

It is all about the hype machine. He plays in NY and every time you watched a Ranger game during the playoffs last year they mentioned how fast Kreider was and how gets behind the defense and blah blah blah.
 
There's no rhyme or reason for the OPC/100 - I've seen parallels/100 go for over $100 just in a fight between 2 or 3 master set builders. $40 really is nothing for an OPC parallel.

For the Score auto - it would appear to be the first one out there - and say all you want about it - someone out there is willing to pay for it. You guys can question it all you want - but a card really is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it

you have to remember our GMs always traded away our first round picks. that and in the last 10 years most of the first rounders were d-men. now we have someone to look forward to for scoring goals. id like to know how your saying this kid will be a 2nd or 3rd line player who likely wont average more then 40 points. is it just hating on the rangers or is it just your own personal scouting report? i see 30-40 goals a year myself. 6 foot 3 230 pounds, he has a great shot and has world class speed.

Personal opinion/prediction. I certainly have nothing against the Rangers, but I haven't seen anything from him that points to a 30-40 goal guy. He's a hard worker, great speed and size, but his past output at the college and World Championship level hasn't been mind blowing or show much beyond what I'm predicting. I'm not a scout, and I wouldn't expect anybody to agree with me, but I'm not seeing anything that would indicate otherwise, either. To me he just looks like a slightly bigger version of Brandon Dubinsky.

You didn't see him as one of the most effective players offensively for the Ranges in the playoffs? For a rookie to step into the playoffs on a huge market team and score a few big goals is pretty damn impressive, I don't care what team you're a fan of. I guarantee you this kid will score more than 40 points a season. They took him in the first round for a reason, he'll be a solid second liner for the duration of his career, with a few top flight seasons I think

I think Art pretty much nailed it regarding the OPC parallels. It just takes two interested parties to easily drive up the prices on these singles. I remember a couple years ago I ended up selling a Chris Kunitz black parallel /100 for like $78.00 USD. So I checked out what both winning bidder and runner-up were bidding on, and it appeared they were both trying to complete the parallel set. And I just happened to have something that both parties needed.

The kid scored 5 goals, 7 points in 18 games. While a couple of the goals were clutch, that's certainly nothing mind blowing. I recall another young American named Chris who came up big in the playoffs......Chris Drury. Considering Drury was a much better college player than Kreider was, it will be interesting to see if his career can follow the same trajectory. I think if Kreider can have a similar career, he'd be well worth the first round pick. Time will tell if he's the real deal, or if he struggles under the day to day grind of an NHL season.
 
Not like theres much out there for top rookies right now. He's the one guy fresh in people's mind. If theres a lock out we won't have Nail or Muarry in the line up.
