Classy move by Matt Duchene

Great story, classy move by Duchene.

What is hidden behind the act of kindness, is the fact that this guy's daughter has to deal with bullying at school. Hope I don't hijack the thread.

WTH is wrong with kids nowadays?? Is it parenting? Can teachers/principal get involved?

I don't know if this is the right move, but if my kid was consistently being bullied by some kid at school, I'd have a pretty serious talk with the parents. Heck I'd even get a lawyer to draft up a letter too about the harassment, so that the parents will take it seriously and do something about it.

Don't know if that's legal or not, but I'd be doing everything I can to force the parents and school to do something about it.

If that doesn't work, then things get fixed the old school way, with some strategic planning.

As a principal/teacher, I can tell you it is definitely the parenting or rather lack thereof in many cases. Kids are spoiled beyond belief and have no sense of accountability. I agree with you that the old school way is often the best way to make it stop. However, there are always three sides to every story; side A, side B, and the truth which is usually somewhere in the middle.

Bullying is sadly a very serous problem for far too many kids theses days. With that in mid, what an amazing gesture by Duchene.... truly a class act. Makes me proud to be a big of this kid

Good on Duchene. Class act all the way.
I hope Trista over comes the bullying and comes out on top.

Side note. When I was younger, i was bullied. Parents helped as much as they could but the bully was relentless. One day I had enough, I couldn't take being hit anymore.I clinched my first, I pulled back and let him have it in the face with all I had in me. I got beat up, but it was the last time I got beat up by him. I think the old school way is the only way to really deal with it. Most if not all the bullying stories I have heard or seen, ended when the person being bullied physically fought back.
I am not saying that it is the only way, but it sure as hell is an efficient way.

Duchene is one of the top class acts in the whole league. he has done a few other things too from what I remember reading about him.

I hope Trista stops getting bullied but now a days it is easier to do it then before.. with online bullying. but I have to agree with Terry that kids are spoiled beyond belief and have no sense of accountability. I see this on my commute to and from work.

also thanks to the OP for both links, as I had to reread both stories. love reading it again

I love this story.

I wonder if a story like this will result in increased hobby love for Duchene...

I mean, if the negative stories decrease a players collectibility (Braun, AROD, Gonzalez), will a positive story like this, increase it?

To me, this is a good enough reason to collect cards of a player. This is a guy worthy of emulation and adoration, in my opinion.

I think positive stories always increase hobby love but how much is the question...

I Would think it would be small....I Don't collect any AValanche(even though I was born in CO.....My team was chosen a few years before the Nords reloacated.

I could see people that collect that team might add him to their list or people that were thinking about collecting him have this be the the reason for the final decision. But there are more than a few charitable pro athletes

Not that I don't commend him for doing this...I think it is pretty awesome

I'm going to post a related thread in hobby talk. I wonder if anyone has started collecting a player because of a heart-warming story like this one.

I remember watching a program about him in Jr hockey. A kid with a rare disease loved him and they actually became close friends. If my memory is correct the kid passed away and was actually burried in his Duchene jersey. He is a class act and its nice to hear stories like this of players helping others especially kids.
