Collections for your kids

With my baby on the way in December, I want to put together a memory box for him or her to commemorate his/her birth year.

I have some ideas but not sure what is the best one. I was thinking about grabbing a December beckett, some higher end cup rcs, hockey, baseball and football magazines, newspapers etc and put them in a memory box.

I would like to know if any of you have created a collector memory box to commemorate the birht of your kids and what did you do exactly?

I am really interested in doing something cool..

Thoughts, suggestions, ideas anyone?

Ameet - I didn't do anything like that, thought about it but never followed through. In retrospect aside from building some sets together (and loving ripping packs) my son's favorite thing in cards (he's now 8) is Logan Couture, because they share the same first name. I believe you're keeping the sex of the baby a surprise, so I guess you won't have a name locked down. But after the naming I'd go back through the sports and find any player namesakes and pick up key in year cards of those players.

If I remember correctly Mal Skelton started a player collection (Boris Valabik) of someone who made their debut on the day his daughter was born. Which I always thought was pretty cool, and something I couldn't do due to when Lola (my daughter) was born (June).

I didn't do anything on the sports side of things - we put together a few items but nothing to huge. Our "box" includes the following:

Hospital Bracelets
Hand and footprints
Photo of mom and baby
Photo of mom and baby with nurses
Newspaper from the day

I think that is about it - there may be a few other misc hospital items in there as well but I can't remember at the moment. They are both just blurs in the rearview mirror at this point - and they weren't even that long ago...ha!

Good luck and have fun and don't put any undo stress on yourself for stuff like this - for everything you miss there will be 100 times where you do something great just by being there. Enjoy buddy!

I didn't do anything like that but I have been collecting with my now 11 year old for around 4 years now. Together we heavily collect Newfoundland born players and I help him with some of his other favorite players (Hossa, Stamkos, Sid, Price, Ovy etc..). We also always do the Panini, OPC or Topps sticker album every year just as I did with my dad growing up. This is our fourth year.

There is some pictures on my freeweb link below if you want to see them. There is a few cool ones there where he go to meet some of the guys we collect. We also try to keep a pull of the week (which sometimes turns into a month) on there for fun.

Ah very cool. I just got my Joe Lundrigan auto a few months back. It happened that he was an uncle of my wife's boss. Pretty cool!

I hope to get the site all updated and finished over the next few weeks. Been a really busy winter with Noah's hockey.
