Connor McDavid: "We’re not going to out-skill anyone"

Sad situation in Edmonton. Wasting McDavid’s prime years, I feel your pain Oilers fans...our GM in Montreal is wasting away what Carey Price has left. Very Very sad situation.

All the Oil need to do is get rid of Chia pet, and things will improve.

Heck they could replace him with Brian Burke and that would be better....geez did I just say that...lol

Chia is a cancer and needs to be removed from this organization immediately. Otherwise, Connor will eventually demand a trade..you can bet on it.

I may not have all the details but I think Chiarelli's most notable deals go like this ...

Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson (Hall goes on to win MVP)
1st and 2nd rounders for Griffin Reinhart at the draft (1st rounder immediately becomes Mathew Barzal who wins rookie of the year, Reinhart plays a handful of games and is no longer with the team)
Jordan Eberle for Ryan Strome
Ryan Strome for Ryan Spooner
Ryan Spooner on waivers.

So Hall, Barzal, Eberle and a 2nd rounder (used to get Anthony Beavillier) straight up for Adam Larsson. That's a solid first line for most NHL teams. There's your missing skill. Eighty six goals and one hundred and fifty one assists in 2017-2018. And Larsson has not become the #1 d-man he was projected to be. You'd be lucky to get the 2nd rounder back for Larsson right now. If you did then the final tally would be Hall, Barzal and Eberle for nothing. Nuh. Thing.

So how does Chiarelli still have a job?? I don't understand it one bit. I'd bet most members of this trading card board could have made better trades even if simply through pure good luck.

Has the fanbase started to lose confidence in Katz? I mean MacTavish is still the VP of Hockey Ops. Is there confidence that if Chiarelli is fired that an even adequate replacement will be hired?

This sucks because as a fan, I want to see the best players in the world playing the most meaningful hockey. And the shambles that the Oilers roster is in, is ruining fans opportunity to see, the best, player in the world in the playoffs.

The analytics are staggering, when Connor McDavid is on the ice the Oilers are one of the very best teams in the league. When he is off the ice the Oilers are the worst team in the league, and it's not particularly close.

To my mind McDavid should win the Hart, the fact that the Oilers are this close to the playoffs is a testament to his greatness.

Ok that seals it. Buying all Mcdavid YG for 100 bucks each. L

adding to this -
traded for the dude that injured McD.
gave Drysaital a VERY generous contract extension (Nylander thanks him)
Signed Lucic to a horrible contract.
Signed Koskinen to a 3yr 4.5M per contract - guess Koskinen was playing so well he deserved that extension now instead of waiting until the end of season. (all the back up goalies that need a contract are :veryhappy::woot::yess::clap::thanks:)

The window is small in this league for a lot of teams (Kings, Hawks, Bruins, etc) and if you don't seize that time and win a Cup(s), it's gone in a hurry.

I think McDavid is young enough Edmonton has time to turn it around and make something happen. Looks at the Pens, they won a Cup fairly quick with Sid, went through a "slump", and then won a couple more 8 years apart after the first I believe? McDavid is a generational type talent like Crosby, he could be playing at high level and be in his prime for over a decade, so the time is there to build something special for the Oilers.

That said, they need to turn the ship 180 now because it takes a good 3-5 years from when you implement a plan to have it running full bore. Chiarelli is a turd, the moment he traded Taylor Hall I questioned his capabilities and he has not disappointed since. So that 3-5 year re-tool starts when he gets canned.

When one of the top 2 players in the NHL starts to "politely" complain, you can hear the train coming down the tracks..............

This team is a dumpster fire. Bad contracts, horrible drafting (aside from a few gimme's) and a rotten trade record. Even TSN is calling for Chiarelli's head.

For some reason the Oilers seem to be giving him the rest of the year, which is a really bad move.

I agree with dumpster fire. As a Flyers fan, the Flyers have made some questionable FA signings and some of their draft picks haven't really matured yet. With that being said, I would say that the trades that were made (and will be made this year) will help build and solidify the team going forward even if this year sucks. As for Edmonton, how exactly can you turn it around in year or two with this roster and the prospects that are in the farm? Maybe they can make the playoffs just because McDavid is McDavid, but they have no depth and their goaltending and defense is suspect. Chia man has got to be run out of town and out of hockey...but before he goes, I think he needs to trade us a 2nd rounder for Andrew McDonald....
