With the release of SPA, one of Upper Deck's tried and true best annual offerings, and the aforementioned subset which depicts big hockey moments for players, I thought I'd throw something fun out there.

If you were going to make a hockey card, with your fondest memory of hockey and accompanying photo (provided you have one) what would it be? It could be anything; your first hockey game with your dad or grandfather, your first hockey game with your own child, first hockey game as a family, your favorite player winning the cup and you were there or just watching on TV, meeting your hero, getting your whale of a card, ANYTHING, you get the idea, whatever is YOUR special authentic moment.

If you have one, and a photo to accompany, post it here and write up a detailed, but concise, "card back" describing the moment. I'm going to pick 1 that is awesome and send that person something.

Also, to bring more fun and awareness to our great site and the current show "Sports Card Live" which is so fun and informative, I'm going to have a random drawing for one more thing. I only ask you go subscribe to Jeremy's YouTube channel, and make a donation to HI, $1-1000, I don't care, just toss some money to keep the site going strong.

Questions? If so, hit me up, otherwise I look forward to so REALLY fun stories and moments!

I was at the first game when Mario Lemieux came back after back surgery ......I had the MARIO sign they gave out forever it was an amazing experience

My favorite moment takes place during the 1993-94 playoff series between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens. Any series with the Habs was trouble thanks to Patrick Roy, so my friend and I did the only natural thing - we turned to voodoo.

"Patrick Roy missed a crucial Game 3 due to appendicitis when two unidentified teenagers placed a Morning Glory sparkler through Roy's 1991 Score card. The sparkler was placed directly in Roy's midsection and evidently caused the goaltender's appendix to inflame, much as the hockey card did. The Bruins throttled back-up Ron Tugnutt, and Montreal lost the series in 7 games."

Mike

After years growing up idolizing Patrick Roy and following his career to the end I didn't think Montreal was going to forgive him and properly honour his years with them.

When tickets went on sale I was online and trying to get a set. Sadly I didn't get a chance and they were sold out before my spot. After some debate I went on the various sites to find a pair of tickets at an extreme markup. Some of the best money I've spent as it is a memory that will be with me as long as my mind allows.

"On November 22, 2008 Patrick Roy was finally welcomed back into the Canadiens family when his iconic number 33 was retired to the rafters to sore above the ice with other Habs legends. The arena was packed to those same rafters and from the nose bleeds the loudest cheer could be heard from long time fan Scott Nobles"

Apparently the date was not set properly on my camera but at least the year is right. You can see me holding some of the SWAG thet were giving out.

Here is a little frame I put together with some of that stuff (pay no attention to the guy in the yellow shirt)

Very cool gesture Barrie. Good luck all.

A bit different but personally special to ME.

For me, these TWO events.

First off non hockey, after running in Boston in 1979, I got to meet Bill Rodgers at the 1980 Toronto Marathon.
BTW Bill Rodgers WON both races.

Another meeting, this time with a hockey legend at a local memorabilia show back in early 1990s.

A few more but that's enough!

I got first-row seats behind the NJ bench when they were in Carolina several years back. I got those because Jagr was playing with the Devils that season. I took a bunch of stupid pictures sitting right behind him--getting a skate repair, looking over a stick or two, etc. If there were a card using a picture taken of him on the bench THAT particular game, I'd hoard them until the end of time. Especially if I happened to be in it! Of course there were no notable stats he hit that game, so one can wish.

Silly me.

Having the opportunity to meet Gordie Howe and have him punch me in the arm with his right fist since his left arm was too sore to give me an elbow was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Shaking that man's hand and having him joke around with me was truly awesome. RIP Gordie!

I was a year and a half old And went to my first Leafs game. I was in Toronto as I had spent 11 of my first 18 months of life in hospital at sick kids. My dad was a huge Leafs fan so he and my mom brought me to a game. Because I was so tiny the usherettes were in awe of me and took me all over the arena that night. They asked my parents if they could do anything for them while they were passing me around like a new doll. My dads favourite player was Darryl Sittler so he asked if he could get an autograph. Darryl was hurt that night so they caught him just as he headed for the dressing room. Sadly nobody had a pen so my dad asked for a photo and Darryl obliged. Fast forward 25 years later and I got Darryl to sign the photo of the three of us. Even though I don’t remember any of it, it is still my moment.

So back in 2003 ITG released Parkhurst Original Six .. I bought a box of the Montreal and pulled 3 game used cards. A Plante Jersey, a Triple Aurel Joliat and this Vezina stick. It was the best pull of my life. I ended up selling it to AJ Vezina, the great grandson of Georges Vezina for $500 because I needed money at the time for my new born daughter. 17 years later I contact him and ask if he still has the card. He lists it on Ebay and I watch it for 5 months just sitting there for $1000 dollars. Last week my girlfriend buys it and I will have it as a Fathers Day present in two weeks. Amazing girlfriend and incredibly happy to have it back. There is a stated print run of 20.. but in 17 years I have never seen another copy. IMG_0486.jpg

My favorite hockey memory if from when Teemu Selanne's rookie season. His run to 50 goals and then on to breaking the rookie season records for goals (Bossy 53) and Points (Stastny 110). It was more than one game or one moment but it was awesome for Jets fans.

What was cool was that all three of those games were home games and we had season tickets that year in the front row on the blue line where the Jets shot twice.

When Teemu scored the 54th goal and threw his glove in the air and shot it down with his stick, I was literally right there; I had jumped up on the boards and leaned over the top of the glass and pumped my fist over my head over and over I went nuts! It was amazing. This is my favorite hockey memory.

The first picture below captured that exact moment. Had to buy this autod pic when I saw it.

The second picture was something I had made in late 1993 and I have been carrying with me for the last 27 years. Counterclockwise from the top left:

  • Top Left: The cover of the Winnipeg Sun the day after he scored his 50th goal (autographed) and game summary along with my ticket stub from the game (autographed),
  • Bottom Left: The cover of the Winnipeg Sun the day after he broke the rookie goals record (autographed), the game summary and my ticket stub (autographed)
  • Bottom Right: The cover of the Winnipeg Sun the day after he broke the rookie points record (autographed), the game summary and my ticket stub (autographed)
  • Top Right: The cover of the Hockey News (Teemu's first cover, autographed) and then I added the game summary and my ticket stub from the first NHL game ever televised live back to Finland. The reason for this was because Finnish Superstar Jari Kurri and the LA Kings were in town (and yes that included Wayne Gretzky) to face Finnish Superstar Teemu Selanne, and star Teppo Numminen and the Jets.
  • Then I added the 12 cards from his rookie year and finally in the 3 and 9'oclock positions between the covers are two pictures of me and Teemu. The one in the 3:00 spot is a pic of him signing all the items in the piece.

Sorry for the long winded story but I don't remember ever showing this piece before and thought hey here's a great chance, so thanks Barrie for the cool thread topic.

Great idea, Barrie!

My favorite personal moment was being at the North Stars-Bruins "Brawl" game in Boston on February 26, 1981. A very memorable night!

But my all-time favorite hockey moment was the great memory for my then 13 year old son Connor during his battle with brain cancer. Connor was treated to participate in the Friday night "Wild Family Skate" where Minnesota Wild Players/Coaches and their families got to skate on the outdoor NHL Stadium Series rink before the Saturday North Stars/Wild - Blackhawks Alumni game and the Sunday NHL Wild - Blackhawks game back in February 2016. He was a special guest of Marco Scandella of the Wild.

Marco stuck with Connor the whole night, skating, talking about video games, his battle with cancer, school, his hobbies, his love of the Wild. I was able to talk a lot with him also. We talked hockey, his family, Montreal...it was really cool.

Marco gave Connor a jersey and a stick and skated around with him. He made sure he roped all his teammates into signing the jersey for Connor (see it at the end below). Marco was such a great guy. Wild teammate Matt Dumba did the same thing for another boy with health problems, too. Then Marco gave us tickets to both weekend Stadium Series games. Connor and I went to those games. We sat near Dumba's parents and Marco's mom for the Sunday game. Great down-to-earth people. Marco's mom gave me a big hug and said she cried when she saw the photos and video of Marco and Connor. Made me cry hearing her talk about it. These parents raised their kids the correct way... they are GREAT GUYS!

Just a FUN weekend for Connor........for what he was going through at the time, it was great to see him smiling and enjoying the moment. Very heartwarming.

This is why the Minnesota Wild and NHL players so special! This memory would make a GREAT Upper Deck card!

Here is a photo of Connor with the Wild mascot Nordy...and his favorite player, Marco!

Marco and Connor:

And the jersey Connor was wearing that Marco made sure everyone signed (including the wrist band we wore for the event):

Thanks!
