My original post appears to have been delated by the mods but since many of you asked to let you know what happened in the end, today I can finally tell you!.

Back in early March I pulled from 2019-20 SPGU a Jack Eichel card numbered 5/9 I didn't think I wanted to keep the card and so I listed it on eBay with a buy it now.

A guy in Concord, California buys the card and pays that night. I pack up the card and ship the very next morning via the US Postal Service with tracking number.

Two days or so pass and I get a PM from the buyer that he wants a full refund because eBay is closed because of COVID 19! I reply that eBay doesn't any anything more to do with the card, that it has been mailed via the post office.

Next day I get another PM from the guy saying he now wants a full refund because the card is damaged! I say how? show me a picture? He will not send me one. The next day he comes back and accused me of packing the card in too tight a holder and he wants a full refund. Next day he comes back and stays that I must have stepped on the card before I mailed it and he wants a refund. I again say send me a picture? He doesn't.

Finally I say enough is enough, return the card and I will refund your money. He refuses to return the card. Several more days go by with him asking for a full refund and I keep replying return the card and I will refund the money. He still will not return the card!

He sends me another PM that he has been to the post office and they acknowledged that the post office damaged the card. He claims the post office doesn't care because he lives in a town of 125,000 and all they hire is people who can't speak English! Mabey this guy is a racist???? I don't know what that would have to do with his claim of the Eichel being damaged???

The guys leaves me my FIRST negative feedback on eBay after being on there for 20 plus years. Well that torks me off and I contact eBay.

I go round and round with eBay that is not fair that this guy has left me a negative when I have offered multiple times to refund if he will only return the card.

eBay goes back and reviews all the PM exchanges and they agree with me, I have tried to do everything to make this guy happy but he will not return the card.

eBay REMOVES the negative feedback and closed the case.

At this point I think, maybe this is over? The month of April goes by and I hear nothing more from this buyer.

Wrong! Three weeks ago he files a PayPal claim that the card was not as described and he wants a full refund. I go back and forth with PayPal over a weeks time telling them the same thing! If they guy will return the card, I will refund the price but the guy will not return the Jack Eichel 5/9. This guy still will not return the card!.

Finally a few days ago I get a message from Paypal that they have told this buyer that he MUST return the card to get his refund.

I get a notice that the card has been mailed and there is tracking. Card arrived yesterday at my work address and I got a notice last night that Paypal had refunded the price from my account. I got the package from the mailroom where I work today.

So that is the story but look at this!

Here is the holder the card was in and it is clearly damaged.

But and you tell me, this is the card that he bought and was returned.

You tell me where is the damage? I sure can't see it!

My thoughts the return address listed the name of a woman and the buyer was a guy. Either the buyer was a kid who shouldn't have spent money on a card or the guys lives with his Mom and couldn't afford the card.

Long story but I am glad to have the card back. I think I will keep it just for the memory of this horror story!

Good luck with your collection!

What a frustrating experience. And this is primarily why I never sell anything. I know these experiences are rare, but I don't want to deal with it. Glad you got the card back.

That's wild. Unfortunately, there are a lot of morons in this hobby nowadays and the number seems to grow daily. Luckily it worked out for you in that you did get the card back in its original condition.

That's a shame! It sucks when it happens, but like you said, it really is rare. I wouldn't let it scare me away from just never selling (or trading).

My logic has always been, think of how many dummies you deal with on a daily basis (Covid-19 being a great example). The sad truth is that at least 25% of people in the world are not only unreasonable, but in many cases pretty dumb as well.

Glad you got the card back but the hassle you had to go through is absurd. I haven't sold anything during this time but I imagine tons of sellers are dealing with item not received claims despite the obvious delays caused by the pandemic and the response to it.

We have them all. I had a guy demand to pay me in cards and another want a refund because he didn’t get a PSA 10 on his card (he got a 9). There’s all kinds of head cases in this hobby (and a few on these boards, too!). There’s nothing you can do except collect these wonderful stories.

I am glad you got the card back. I have read too many horror stories when these fraudulent buyers send back empty envelopes or different card with tracking and paypal refunds them. I would videotape any returned packages being opened to have proper proof.

I have had one guy contact me for a refund on a 1/1 cup printing plate saying it had damage (some edge chipping that was clearly visible in the images. I told him to send it back, but he kept asking for a refund then reduced his demands to a 50% refund, the nerve of some people! I held firm on the return only option and he finally caved and never contacted me again. Noob, scammer, or whatever.
