Hi all,

Question for you, I have had this Crosby Black Diamond in my collection since release and it's in nice condition except for what seems to be a print issue on the back, it looks like there is a slight "wash-out" starting at the G on the stat-line and going down to almost the bottom of the card. I've included a picture here and I hope what I'm talking about is clear. What does everyone think this would do to the value of the card and what do you think would happen if it was sent in for grading? Thanks in advance for any input.

My best,

Ken

Interesting. I haven't looked, but I'm sure you could easily look online to see if this happened with other copies as well. If it was a common issue, it should not affect a grade.

I cracked several cases of this back in the day. The only prominent defect that was noted at the time on some cards, particularly the single thru quad rookies, was a top center edge "bubble" likely caused by the printer roller during production. I have a PSA 10 and a non graded copy of this Crosby RC card. Neither has this. It looks to me like moisture damage rather than a defect, but perhaps Upper Deck has more info on this. If it is damage it would certainly effect the resulting grade IMO.

That was my other thought, and I honestly think is probably the more likely explanation.

Definitely not moisture damage as the card still has it's gloss and no bubbling, it looks like it's from the printing. I work in the printing industry and when things are being "made-ready" the plates would have various liquids on them and the first sheets are thrown away until the proper colour is achieved. This looks like it may have be caused by that. Another possibility is a low-spot in the printing blanket, that also can cause lighter printing.

My best,

Ken

I am no expert but on the right most diamond that like like a finger print , it may be finger prints from handling. the oils from hands . I would think that it would be considered a surface defect. if they in fact grade both sides of the card for surface.
my 2 cents
Jeff
