He might not get as many rings and flash like Shaq had, but this guy will dominate every # that Shaq has ever put up, he's been my favorite Center in the league for the last few years, he is pure power at everything he does on the court, and is a Defensive Beast!

He had 32 pts, 21 rebounds, and 4 blocks!

That's not all, these are his avg for this year!

21.2 ppg, 4 blocks per game, 14 rebounds per game, now that's Dominance!

He leads the league at both rebounds and blocks per game! And is 15 in points per game!

These are his stats for his 3 years combined so far!

16.7 ppg, 2 bpg, 12.3 rpg, and these numbers will only go higher!

Howard is a bit better at rebounding and blocking than Shaq, but I don't see him averaging 25-30 points per game consistently like Shaq did in his prime. He's also not a very good passer, averaging less than 2 assists per game in all of his seasons so far, including this one. In Shaq's prime, he averaged 2.5-3.8 assists per game, although he's dropped off significantly in the last few seasons. Scoring-wise, from 1993-94 to 2002-03, Shaq was never once under 26 points per game for an entire season, and went over 28 in five different seasons. 1999-00 was his best all-around: 29.7 PPG, 13.6 RPG, 3.8 APG, and 3.0 BPG.

Shaq was a beast in a time when the league was full of fantastic centers. Howard is good but the league has changed over the past few years. Centers are now more like power forwards most don't play down low like the use to. If Shaq was in his prime now he would be tearing the NBA up. I am not trying to deminish the fact that Howard is a good player but Shaq is one of the best all-time. I will need to watch Howard for 10 more years before I will be comfortable even comparing him to Shaq.

Yeah but D12 without a doubt is probably the best thing next to shaq in his prime we will see for a very long time, this kid has mad skills and in the last few weeks he's had two games where he avg 20 something points, and 20 something rebounds in a game, along with 2-4 assists, and 5-6 blocks.

He might not put Shaq to shame like my title says, but he sure as hell will be the most dominate Center in the league for a good while to come, I love watching him play!

I think he also will have the bonus of being an old school center in a new style league. Howard is big, strong and loves to play D as well as score. He loves being under the buckett which is quite different then most current NBA centers.

I agree that he is a dominate force and will be for a long time. Lets hope the Magic can build something special around him.

Agreed about being the best dominant big man in some time. Dwight is doing what Amare Stoudemire and Yao Ming should be able to do - not just score big time and be an athletic big man, but REBOUND consistently. Yao and Amare should get 10+ rebounds a game. Dwight is getting almost 15 - dang straight!

Amare is really a power forward not a center. Yao would be pulling down big #'s if not for the constant injuries.

Yeah I noticed that a lot recently that a lot of team are bringing in retired big men veterans to help the young one's in the game and help them develop their under the basket dominance if you will, I think Kareem is in LA helping out Bynum and there are a few other retired centers around the league helping their former teams big men.

Kevin Garnett is also a power forward, but he rebounds more than Amare. Power forwards spend as much time in the paint as centers.

Yao doesn't even rebound in high consistent numbers when healthy; I watch the Rockets nightly on DirecTV.

Over the past 5 years its hard to tell who is the PF and who is the centre. Big men like Duncan, Ticket, Bosh all have good mobility and mid range shooting as well as a inside game. The PF position has changed as much as the centre.

I think the guys in the league these days have changed so much cause everyone is so much more versatile these days, that it's more of a PF/C position now than just one or the other, it's a combination position, there's a few rare Centers left in the game.

I agree there - the positions seem interchangeable these days.

And as Eric mentioned, there's the versatility factor. Some guys like Dirk are 7 feet, but can shoot threes.

I still like what D12 brings though as a more traditional big man, getting well over double figure rebounds on average. Per 48, I think the only guys who outrebounded him last season were Andris Biedrins and Tyson Chandler.
