It was announce yesterday on Rock 95.7 FM radio in Barrie, but Barrie Colts head coach, and NHL HOF'er Dale Hawerchuk is taking a leave of absence from the team for the 2019-2020 season for health reasons. I wish Dale a speedy recovery, and hope he is going to be okay, it sounds extremely serious. Get well soon Dale!

Just heard tonight that the reason Dale Hawerchuk took a leave of absence from his coaching job with the Barrie Colts, is because he is battling stomach cancer. He is currently taking chemotherapy, I hope, and pray he can beat this.

Hawerchuk completes final round of chemotherapy

Hockey Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk has completed the final round of his chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with stomach cancer in August, his son Eric confirmed Monday.

The former NHL star spent nine seasons with the Winnipeg Jets and five with the Buffalo Sabres before wrapping up his career with the St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers. He produced 1,409 points in 1,188 regular-season games and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001.

The 57-year-old Hawerchuk then coached the OHL's Barrie Colts from 2010-19, when he stepped down due to his cancer diagnosis.
