Dany Heatley requests trade

The article says he'd like to go to the West, but no mention of it being "back" since he's never played anywhere but the Eastern Conference. Granted, lots of folks say they like it "back out west" so maybe that's just been over-emphasized.

I sincerely doubt this is anything more than a big rumor started by some idiot reporter looking to have something to write or talk about for a few days. Heatley has shown no sign of wanting to leave Ottawa and has very solid teammates to play with. Not to mention the team should be much more competitive next year.

Man, this would really suck. I know Heatley has taken a lot of criticism this past season but he is a great player and I'd be sad to see him go. However, if they can get good young talent in return, then I guess I'm ok with it. The Oilers are always looking to do something big. Maybe a deal involving Tom Gilbert?

I'm sure Heatley loves not being in the playoffs every year... I think he realizes that the Ottawa window has closed. Alfredson is leaving soon, goaltending is a question mark, etc. He sees what Hossa did and wants to do the same.

What Hossa did? Hossa actually was VERY disappointed when the Sens traded him before the 05-06 season. He always said he wanted to stay and be a part of this organization long term. The only problem was he was not willing to take a "home-town discount" which is why the Sens did the sign-and-trade with him

nah but hossa just picked a winning team before he got old. I'm sure heatley wants to win a cup and the easiest way right now is not to take the money or secure contract with a not as good team, but instead join a good team.

I love how the league puts up with the players nonsense. If you crybabys aren't happy with where you are playing then either quit hockey , retire or rot in the minors. I bet that there tons of people who play hockey and would love a shot at the pros and not complain of where they are playing.

You and your agent signed a huge long term deal to stay in ottawa, and now you want out. WHAT A JOKE.

If he gets moved, the return would be astronominical, but I don't think anything will come of this. It was an off year, and unless he doesn't get along with Clouston, which was reported late in the year, I do not see this being true.

Thats a pretty good possibility IMO. The Oilers need a goal scorer , plain and simple , i would love to see him in Copper and Blue! Gilbert has a nice contract , is moveable. The Oilers also have Souray and Vishnovski on the backend , and rumour has it will go after Boumeester , making Gilbert expendable. All depends on the Oil's cap space , they also need a goaltender though . Let's see what Tambellini and Quinn can do!

But there is a reason they would love a shot , because they are not good enough. Players request trades all the time , it's not like teams are noted for showing loyalty either.
Would you be saying the same thing about the Ottawa organization if he was traded without requesting a deal?

If Heater's going west, there's a Barker/Seabrook type player coming back the other way.

I think a goalie and a top 12 first round draft pick power forward is fair compensation no? If it had to be a defenseman, I could live with Barker being traded, no way should they trade Seabrook. Huet & Barker? Sure, wrap it up, I'd take that deal.
