David Stern stepping down as NBA commissioner in 2014

NBA commissioner David Stern will retire in February 2014, 30 years after he took charge of the league. He will be replaced by deputy commissioner Adam Silver.

The announcement came at an NBA board of governors meeting Thursday.

Stern, who turned 70 last month, became commissioner on Feb. 1, 1984. He has been the league's longest-serving commissioner, guiding the league through growth around the world.

For all of his faults, he is leaving the league in a lot better shape than when he started, can't say that about all sports commissioners.

The only major thing I think he went wrong was expanding out the league it really watered down the talent in my opinion, outside of that though I think he did a pretty good job marketing the league and leaving it in better shape than he got it.
