Death in the family.... no, not what you think!

I've been slowly selling off my collection, consolidating my PC on eBay and actually enjoying watching the bidding wars, the side offers roll in and the price jumps whenever a certain player I have for sale jumps in price because he scored a few key goals in the playoffs (thank you Tavares). Overall it's been a good experience and most people pay in a timely manner.

What I have noticed lately is that family members are dying left and right. Yup, In the 8 or so unpaid payments I have, 4 of them, yes 50%, have said that they are dealing with the death of a loved one and have incurred funeral expenses or had to travel out of the country.

I just think this is too funny. Even when I was selling before, I noticed this excuse would pop up every so often, and while I don't want to dismiss the people who are truly suffering, I just find it sad and funny, that something so tragic has turned into a joke and a lame excuse to some, especially some of the more elaborate PMs I get that are 3 pages long filled with minute details and excuses sprinkled throughout. Just man up and say you can't pay right now and I'll give you some time. Now, I am for certain going to block you and close the NPB if not paid in 4 days.

Same here. I automatically assume if someone hasn't paid within 3-4 days, they simply don't want the card. But yes, lots of death in the hobby lately.

Funny, there is a similar thread on a comic site I frequently visit. Seems a lot of The members over there selling on eBay are getting the same excuse. The other big one is they lost their job.

that's a shame to first, use death for excuses! You don't mess up with death!
and second, we understand that you need to feed your family before buying cards so stop bidding if you can't pay!! Are people really addicted to cards enough to have a program for the addicted ones?

I don't think I've ever not paid for an eBay item, even if I regret it. I don't get it. If you can't pay, don't bid. I've asked to have a transaction cancelled once, but that was when I tried to bid $26.22 and it went in as $2,622.00. Whoops. Seller was understanding.
