Do my eyes deceive me UFC? Fight Card UFC 119

I noticed that a few days ago. What really suprises me is that he is on the non-televised portion of the undercard.

Why would you put a guy on a main card that hasn't won a fight in over four years?

This isn't the freak show that the Couture/Toney fight is, although it may well still be a freak show. Mark Hunt isn't a name that will draw anybody, the only people that know who he is are hardcore fans that remember when he beat Silva and Cro Cop. I still have my doubts as to whether Mark Hunt gets down to 265lbs. for the fight.

As to why he was brought in in the first place I went back to an article I read a while ago:
http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/Regretful-Hunt-Sees-UFC-as-Last-Chance-25637

Here is an excerpt:

"I ask if he was given the standard four-fight contract. "I'm not even sure on the contract," he responds. "It might be four fights, but I think I have to win my first one first, cause I haven't really been too successful lately."

The fact that he's been given an opportunity at all is a puzzling one. There was a moment following Zuffa's purchase of Pride in 2007 that they were interested in bringing in Hunt, but given the surprisingly dynamic state of the UFC heavyweight division, and Hunt's age, high-profile failures and lack of dedication, one would figure that the moment had passed.

UFC boss Dana White tweeted Thursday that Hunt was owed fights because of the company's purchase of Pride, despite the fact that the course of history showed us many of those contracts were non-transferable and thus unenforceable. However, Hunt himself is unwilling to divulge any deals."

Considering his last 5 opponents were Mousasi, Manhoef, Overeem, Fedor, and Barnett I think we can excuse the poor record of 0-5. I don't think ANYONE can boast a previous 5 fight line up like that.

Back in the day Hunt was a beast. I loved watching his fights back when he fought for the K1. Hunt is also washed up and he won't last long in the UFC.

MARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRK HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONT

Screw y'all. I'm looking forward to this as much as Akebono looks forward to his next sandwich.

Hunt was one of my favorite Pride guys and as much as he's proven he's possibly no longer a top tier fighter (hard to tell when you look at his last 5 fights where Manhoef is the weakest link,) he still fights that dynamic style the US crowds like...standup, pro-strikes and all-in balls-out.

The only doubts I have are what sort of a career he'll have in UFC and how long it will take him to end up on the main card. I can't believe Cyrille Diabate, for example, is still on the unaired prelim card, which leads me to believe Hunt might languish on prelims for a while.

Dave, I wouldn't worry too much about Hunt's inability to cut to 265. Sean McCorkle, his opponent tends to fight at 300 pounds...so it'll be a challenge for both.

if Hunt actually dedicates himself to training he would have a decent chance against a lot of the HW's in UFC but hes looked sloppy the last few years. His skillset is still comparable to some of the best, but his work ethic is horrible. Id like to see him to do good but i think hes being brought in to pad some records. Ive also been waiting quite some time now to see his opponent "Sean Mccorkle" make his UFC debut. He is well known in the UG for being a foul mouthed badass HW. lol he gives guys like Chael Sonnen and the Diaz bros a good run as p4p best smack talker out there. I would love to see him back it up in the cage. Hes a big boy and could probably do a lot of damage to some of the hws in UFC with the proper training and a good game plan.
