Do scratched redemption cards have any value?

Hello,
Well some of you may have heard back around the fall expo that I sold my collection and got out of the hobby, well that would be totally true. I enjoyed my time in the hobby very much and made several great friendships that continue to be strong even outside of the hobby. Unfortunately, a multitude of factors coupled with an offer I couldn't refuse made the decision an easy and necessary one for me. Since November I have been slowly clearing out the last remnants of my collection. I have a bunch of low end trade bait from all 4 sports that I might list for sale on the sale boards, but I also just stumbled on all my scratched redemptions, I never threw out any. This may be a stupid question but is there any value to scratched redemptions? Obviously all the live cards are long gone.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I think there would be some interest, for higher end or really rare stuff of someone's pc guy. I don't think you will retire off of it, but I bet you can get a few bucks

Hey Sean,

I was under the assumption you kept a certain "Set" of "Heroes" autographs? Is that not true? Anyways, to answer your question, I remember a Taylor Hall Cup RC /99 redemption card (scratched already) sold for over $100 or even $200. Not too shabby considering it is virtually worthless after redeemed. My only question or concern is that I hope the intentions of the buyer were not ruthless as to sell the redemption as a non-scratched redemption somehow...

As per Pacman69s comment, as a PC collector I kept my redemption cards to match it up with my player card. I like to be a complete collector of all. And I would be willing to buy a redeemed card, but not spend a lot.

Hi Rod,
I hope you're well. No the Heroes set went in November along with everything else.
Best regards,
Sean

As a Larry Murphy collector, Murphy has had a number of redemptions in Upper Deck products that I purchased redemptions for, only to have them go unfulfilled. I kept those redemption chits as reminders/placeholders in my autograph collection. I've since learned my lesson on paying full market value for redemptions at release, but assuming the cards will never actually be made, I have been known to trade for and acquire redeemed chits from others as further placeholders. I won't give "a ton" for them, but they do have some value to me in that sense. I agree with the earlier posters - you can probably get something for them. Maybe not much, but really, isn't anything you can get for a scratched redemption card basically "found money" and a bonus?

There are some special breed of player collectors and/or set collectors that would include everything in their collections that may include scratched redemptions.
Hell, I have seen a collector have it broken down to Upper Deck holo sticker variations...that is some insane collecting right there.

As we have seen recently, there are some crazy collectors looking for and paying for some crazy variations of cards (see recent threads about Pro Set variations). I consider the redemption card, scratched to be a variation of the unscratched (found in unopened packs past date of redemption) and the card these are to be redeemed for as a piece of a "master set".

Example of this is that pinnacle or score set from the 90's that you had to send in that winning card to redeem the special card & they returned it die-cut stamped...that returned die-cut is technically the "scratched" redemption, but is part of anyone's set as a variation of the card.

Bet of luck in finding buyers for the remainder of your collection.

I would feel really cheap to sell those cards. I would give them away if someone wants it. but to avoid fraud and confusion, they are recycled. I wish the compagnies can have a program to return those cards and get a few packs for the trouble of having a redemption in our boxes.
