ok.. may be nothing.. but it sure seems odd to me.
Look at the auction & bid history, the 2nd highest bidder retracted a "mistake" bid of $17,000 + for this card & then conviently placed a bid a few minutes later for $1 below the high bidders max bid !!
1st off how do you put is a $17,000 bid & not know what your doing ?
And by doing so, ebay allows you to go to bid history & see next highest bid.. humm, then he only puts in a bid below the high bidder .. why ! ? If you could see his bid and you plan on placing another bid you go over his bid, unless.. you just want to drive the $$ up but not win it.
And both seller / and this bidder are from NJ.
Both have lots of feedback, & people may not make anything of it, but it looks strange to me. maybe I'm wrong, but I dont know.
my 2 cents..
Pete

Stanleekup's a legit ebayer from what I know, and I think you may be dead on in your accusation. It looks like stevebeatle just wanted to make Stanleekup pay as much for the card as they could.

Thats what I was thinking.. its a shame for Stanleekup to get screwed like that !!
why doesnt ebay allow you to email or contact other users anymore ?
unless you bid on someones auction, you cant do it.

I know myself often times when I'm typing 249.00 I accidentally hit 17499.00

... riiiiiiight. I could understand making a mistake on one digit, but entering 2 extra digits, that aren't anywhere near each other on the keypad. Somethings fishy here or buddy needs to stop typing with his feet.

That upsets me! I would bet every card I have to say that is def what happened there.
I am going to try and email someone about this.
Thx for the info!

Definately looks fishy, Pete. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

On another note, I'm almost glad I don't try going for such things as that. I have a Zenith rookie, and that's good enough for me :)

click on 'ask seller a question' up in the top part of the listing :)

I agree with CJ. The regular Zenith RC is good enough for me...

But as for the topic, of course somethings fishy. I know theirs a thing called "innocent until proven guilty" but thats out the window in a case like this. This is more like guilty until proven innocent.

a case of reverse onus if you will

While I agree that this smells like week-old room-temperature halibut, there's no way to prove anything. The bidder stevebeatle CAN legitimately fall back on "wrong amount" here:
$17499 is awful close to $174.99 - just add the decimal point.

That is true, but instead of bidding $174.99 after he retracted, he pushed the price as high as he could without actually winning it.

Well I received a reply from the email I sent to the winner, here it is!

Dear sholi2000,

Hi,

I know what you mean. I wasnt so sure about the deal either, but, $250 was the most I was willing to bid on the Lecavalier anyway. I figure I'm getting the card cheap at that price, for the level he is playing, at such a young age, i think $250 isn't a bad price. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to let this little b.s. he pulled slide. I got news after the deal is completed. By the way, I tried joining the Hobby Insider website once already, and they cancelled my membership? I don't know why, but I reapplied again today. Can you tell me why I can respond to a post? Thanks, ************"(I took out the signature)
