Does anyone really get into OPC?

Gang,

For years I've debated OPC annually. I've always liked the product, like the affordable price tag, large set and parallel set to collect, etc. I've always ended up finding ITG stuff to rip and spent the money that way. With those products having dried up I find myself consideringit a lot more. Case prices aren't bad, seems like it would make for a lengthy and fun break, and if one decided to chase the base parallel sets sure would keep someone busy.

Really starting to lean towards diving into this and wanted to see if anyone on here really got into OPC as far as not just breaking, but collecting the product.

Anyone? Curious to hear thoughts and opinions. In other words, help me rationalize this! LOL.

OPC is by far my favorite product. Affordable and lots of set building. What collecting has always been about :)

That's the draw for me. I like the fact that its a low stress product and not a wild gamble. The giant base set and parallels seems like it would make for a great set building project to keep busy with too.

It's nice even to go back to some of the older OPC stuff today. Good example, you can get a retail box of 2007-08 OPC for a really low price and get a chance at Toews, Kane, Price rookies, jerseys, buybacks/buyback autos, potential autographs, and various other inserts.

Are there places where we can find them for cheaper than 80CAD? It sounds fun :)

2007-08 OPC is insane value. Price, Kane and Toews are HOF locks and Backstrom probably gets there as well. Kane best American hockey player ever with a legit shot at 1400 points. Early Crosby cards as well.

I bought 2 cases and ripped one, hitting /100 rookie cards of first ballot HOF'rs is pretty cool and there are some funky buy backs in the product as well.

Agreed, where can I get some?

Hope the title of my thread isn't misleading either. It wasn't meant to be a snide remark against OPC. I was just wanting to know if we had any BIG fans that really tore into cases of this stuff annually.

I used to go through quite a bit of older ITG stuff when the prices came down but now that it's all dried up my interest in tearing wrappers has not and this seems like something that could be quite a bit of fun.

I know this sounds crazy but I break 30 cases of OPC every year. This year, I pre-ordered 40. I have a ton of people who buy sets and singles from me. It's a ton of work but it's fun :)

Every year, with some Canadian collectors, it's the set to have just like right now, it's the TIMMY cards AND then the disappearing act for another year.

Holy freaking crap! That sounds like a 9-5 there but a ton of fun. I was thinking maybe 2-4 cases at release to bust and start the base/parallel sets and then work on trading and picking up the singles from there. Seems like it would be quite a project to keep me busy when the lake is frozen, LOL.

I broke 5 or 6 boxes last year and it was the most fun I've had breaking boxes ever. I'll be going for it again this year.

I break 3-5 boxes every year - its the only set I do and really for the most part the only boxes I break each year.

I pretty much auto-bust a case of OPC each year. It's my favorite set to put together and the inserts and easter eggs always make it a blast to break. Last year, I think I paid for the case with 10-15 inserts and parallels last year.

Just to add to my previous statement that it was the most fun I had breaking all year last year, I also have not even sold a single card from my breaks and there are some big hits and I absolutely don't care about recouping my money just because it was so fun! At some point I should get to listing lol

That's the precise reason why I continue to think about OPC every year. I'll never get rid of the urge to bust boxes, I like projects, and this seems like a fairly affordable project that would turn into a lot of fun. I've never broken more than 2-3 boxes at a time and it's always been fun. Might be time to go all in on OPC.

Once you're done breaking, if you need help finishing sets, you know where to find me ;)
