Flashback to September 17th, 2009. Me and a buddy are heading to the Dome' for a preseason game with the Flames hosting the Islanders. It would have been just another tune-up game but this one had crazy buzz surrounding it, with it being the return of Calgary's franchise player from the 90's. Love him or hate him, Theo Fleury was back wearing the flaming C for the first time in nearly 10 years.
With all eyes on #14 for most of the game, the game worked it way into a shootout, not before Dion Phaneuf delivered an absolutely devastating hit to Kyle Okposo. It truly felt like a playoff game for most of the night. I have never heard the Dome' as loud as it was when Theo scored the shootout winner, and I knew I had seen one of the coolest things a Flames fan could ever see. I felt really lucky to be in the building that night!
Fast-forward to a few months ago...
I contacted a member on a game worn jersey community about a jersey he had for sale because of mounting medical bills. It was a 92-93 Theoren Fleury Road Red gamer. I ended up purchasing the jersey and he told me he had four other Theo gamers, including the Home Red from his comeback attempt in the 09-10 season. I told him that if he ever considered selling the jersey to please contact me about it. A few weeks ago I got an email saying that the jersey was for sale as no one had bit on his Theo Hawks gamer. We exchanged a few more emails and before I knew it the jersey was on its way.
I'd really like to thanks Chris from Alabama for just giving me a shot at owning this one. I can't imagine much that could top this for me. Complete with Meigray doc's and all the fixin's.
