Don Cherry Vs. Ovechkin.....

Typical ramble from the pants crapping senile idiot. I haven't taken anything Cherry has said seriously in at least a decade.

Hockey needs characters like Ovechkin. I wish more players would show his kind of emotion.

Cherry just has so much hate for European players, and its getting old like him. Didn't he say a few weeks back that Vanek deserved his injury?

The whole banging on the glass, sure do it in your home crowd. The little touch on the ice celebrations has been mocked by other players (i.e Richards last season's playoffs).

Ovechkin isn't the first player to jump into the glass like that......The guy is emotional and shows it on the ice...I don't see anything wrong with that....Cherry had nothing to say about Crosby when he dove into the glass last week after scoring....If you score you have the right to celebrate however you want to....This isn't football

Amen to that. :offtopic: Have you heard that they want to penalize college football players for any celebration, and if they slow down and showboat on the way to scoring :offtopic:

Thats because Cherry is a Crosby kiss arse, however, based on how much I have seen Ovy against the Flyers and on highlights, he does go overboard a bit. Am I saying he shouldnt do it, no, im just agreeing that Cherry does have a point in what he said.

I think this might be the first time I really had to shake my head at Cherry. I see nothing wrong with a little celebration after a goal. Fans love it, I love it, Crosby hates it, so I love it even more hahaha

That's just ridiculous.....What happens on the field/ice should stay on the field/ice....What happens if a guy hits a homerun flips his bat and watches the ball leave the park before he starts trotting to first??....There's a good chance he might get a fastball high and tight next at bat....Nobody should step in and tell a player how to act....If somebody has a problem with the way Ovy celebrates goals STOP HIM FROM SCORING!!!!.....If you can't then oh well....If it bothers you that much have somebody put a hip into him....It seems like people want to cry about it so the NHL will step in and put a stop to it....2 minutes for excessive celebration anyone??

You mean you don't like those emotionless players that walk around like robots and give pre-scripted interviews with bombshells like "we need to give it 110% out there' or "if we don't win tonight we will lose"??

First of all, it's not like Ovechkin jumps around after every goal although Cherry would have you believe he does it 5x a game.

Ovechkin's not Jason Blake who celebrates a goal like he won the Cup when in reality his team is down 6 goals.

Secondly, I for one welcome a bit of emotion out there. I pay $250 a year to watch these guys on TV and spend hundreds of dollars to see them play live. I don't want to see a bunch of guys out there looking like they don't care.

Ovechkin also loves the fans and does a lot for them, so it's not like he's just being a snotty conceited prick. He loves the game, the team, the city and the fans and his celebrations are just a reflection of it.

I find it funny that someone as obnoxious as Cherry that displays so little class can actually go out there and call someone out for celebrating. Ya, Cherry... this is the guy that says players should get hurt, slurs prejudice and hateful remarks to anyone that's doesn't meet his qualifications of being "Canadian."

I loved it heheh.Tell ya the truth, the NHL needs more guys like ovy and he is such a good player but also something the fans can get behind and enjoy.Whether you like him or not he brings that extra special something to the table wherever he is.The perfect cover guy for the NHL ,just take a look at the all star game thing, kids loved it and me too.
Besides it 's a game and should have "colorful" guys like that, brings more fans if you ask me.And if the NHL wants more business then look what ovy can bring in.Let him celebrate any way he wants,we need the more outspoken, entertaining aspects from the "superstar" players.
Sweet thing to bring up.:)Go Ovy...And he acts like a Canadian too.
cheers

Anyone who takes Cherry seriously really needs to get their head examined. On that note, I don't mind what Ovechkin does, clearly both him and Crosby are very driven players and they have different ways of showing their emotions.

There's no need to even dignify Cherrry's comments with a response - Hockey Night in Canada is bordering on irrelevance outside of the coverage of the games. MacLean and Cherry should've been put out to pasture a long time ago

Love , Like or hate grapes , He is who he is. , Grapes has a 5-10 minute skit on H.N.I.C and is watched by a lot of people and now even more americans due to the fact that the NHL network is carrying the CBC feed for H.N.I.C and there is also Youtube. He makes it a point to pay respect to all the CANADIAN fallen soldiers, Cops, fireman, injured or tragiedy that happens in hockey at the end of his show. For that reason there is why I love the guy. It wouldn't hurt the news station to close their show by paying tribute to a fallen hero. ( at least in my area this doesn't happen ).

As for what Don Cherry said , It will happen , down the road, in due time Maybe playoff time but it will happen. All you need is a short tempered guy who is on the ice when Ovechkin scores , to rattle his cage. Players ( not all ) , really sad to say, use their stick as a weapon.

Look at McSorley on Brashear, Look at Hunter ( dale ) when he got 25 games in the playoffs, Chris Simon cross checking buddy in the face.

I like it when ovechkin celebrates when he scores, he gives The fans some excitement, but there will be an idiot, maybe in the nhl right now or not that will get Ovechkin. With all the head shots and all these hits from behind it may happen sooner than later.
