To many, including the likes of fellow Hall of Famers Charles Barkley and Hubie Brown, former Boston Celtics forward Kevin McHale was simply the most unstoppable low-post threat to ever play the game. And to many collectors, he’s been on the top of most wishlists for certified autograph cards…until now!
Official at Donruss announced today that Basketball Hall of Famer, Kevin McHale, has signed his very first autograph agreement with a trading card company. Donruss recently completed the signing and his first certified autograph cards will appear in the company’s latest release, Donruss Americana Sports Legends.
"It's amazing that in a very competitive basketball market that Donruss has been able to bring collectors two Hall of Famers (**** Vitale being the other) that have never had certified autograph card," said Marketing Director Scott Prusha. "We are excited to be bringing McHale’s first certified autographs to our products, giving another reason for collectors to pick-up Sports Legends."
He will appear in the base commons as a member of the University of Minnesota, where he still ranks second in career points scored. He will also appear on two combos cards in the launch, being paired with teammate Larry Bird in the Signature Connection Combos and Bird and Robert Parish in the Signature Connection Triples.
McHale, who was enshrined the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999, helped the Celtics win three NBA titles, in 1981, ‘84 and ‘86. A seven-time All-Star, he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history in 1996.
“He became the most difficult low-post player to defend -- once he made the catch -- in the history of the league,” Hubie Brown said. “He was totally unstoppable because of his quickness, diversification of moves and the long arms that gave him an angle to release the ball over a taller man or more explosive jumper.”
McHale ranks ninth in NBA history with a .554 career field goal percentage. And in 1986-87, he became the first player in league lore to shoot .600 from the floor and .800 from the charity stripe in the same season. Of course, he was also a member of the famed “Big Three” frontcourt along with Larry Bird and Robert Parish.
McHale has served as Minnesota Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations since 1995.
Donruss Americana Sports Legends will release in December, with each five-card pack carrying a $10 SRP.
