Hey Gang,

It has been a while since I posted on here. Life has been very hectic since I got laid off back in early June. Instead of being downtrodden and depressed, I treated the layoff as a means to enjoy the summer. I have spent the time looking at starting my own business (No it is not opening up a card shop!), look at different employment and career options, applying for jobs, going through a plethora of interviews, and most of all spending time with my almost 2 year old boy.

In the back of my mind, I was missing the cards and the hobby very much. I pretty my avoided scenarios whereby I was spending any cash on the cards for my collections or buying and selling collections. I would drive by the local walmart (yes the local walmart) and looking at the cards on the shelf. I took pride that I didn't succumb to my own will to say screw it and buy cards.

This morning, I took a break from everything and picked up a box of cards I already own. The amount of peace I felt by just sorting my cards, was amazing. I seem to notice new things about the cards I own. The placement of the autograph, the descriptions on the backs etc. Then I noticed something I have taken for granted. On some of the cards, in behind the players are the fans. There are some bloody interesting shots of fans in the background. So I figured I needed to start another card related thread. Life is not always about what is in front of you, but what goes on in the periphery. It made me smile. A small win again for me in that I could look at the same card and find another interesting tidbit about it.

Show us all some cool shots of cards with interesting or funny fan shots in the background. I'd post some but i have forgotten where I placed the stack of cards with this theme. Instead of trying to find them, I'd let some of y'all post some stuff.

Guy to the left of King Henrik with a classic photobomb. I can't see anything else when I look at this card now haha.

And a Hasek rookie with a random player trying to get in the picture frame. RC of a six-time Vezina winner and Hasek doesn't even get the card to himself!

Finally, who wears a Milan football shirt to an Oilers game??

Sorry to hear Ameet, I got laid off back in mid May and still trying to land a job myself. Sometimes it's hard to stay positive but you seem to be doing a good job of it. Good luck finding something sooner rather than later.

I have been blessed with my network of contacts that I don't need to grab the first thing I find. I am being choosy but the bank only holds cash for so long before it is claimed by others. I am hoping ot have something landed by mid august.

The contributions so far are great!! keep em coming.

This Bills fan watching the Jets play in Winnipeg. Stands out to me, not just being from Buffalo, but I went to college with a guy who looks just like him!

EDIT:

On a similar note, it wasn't until just recently that I realised that Hawerchuk is the guy at the bottom of this photo:

Which is bad, considering the age of the card. :\

09-10 Heroes and Prospects has the SAME background crowd on all the base cards. They sort of make me twitch every time I see one.

Re: the Terreri.... I had an idea for a topic awhile ago and actually it might even fit this theme. It was about what cards do you notice the boards first. Not counting the Sandy McCarthy one where he is making fun of David Letterman...

Like this 2002-03 Upper Deck Ivan Novoseltsev with the car:
