Well, there is a new eBay member, stephanefelx , who is going crazy on buying all the UD Ice stuff he can get.

Well, unfortunately that includes the Ice Premiers Auto Patches i collect. He is willing to pay WAY more than i am to get them... heres some examples:

Had a snipe at $60 for this one... thought it was a lock.. i was wrong:

Had a snipe of $98 on it....its an upgrade so its not that much of a priority, got my 2 clr for $60...he drove the price up as high as it went:

He got a good deal on this one, i paid the same for my 1 clr :(

THIS ONE IS JUST STUPID!.. thought i would win it at about $95, as the seller won his for $100, and thought it would go for less.. i was WAY OFF:

I HATE THIS GUY!!!! Hes gonna get further ahead in the set than me in a month i bet, and ive been working on it since release :(

In just a few weeks on eBay, he has amassed a feedback of 122 already, and growing by the day... really ticking me off as he is making the completion of the set impossible, as if its not hard enough already

only way im able to buy them now at half decent prices is if the seller makes a bad title... i think he searches "ice patch auto" which gives him most of the results, but if someone makes a title like "ice premiers patches" then he will not pick it up, which allowed me to get a Jim Howard for the great price of $50!

I think i might message the guy and try and work out some kind of a deal, cuz we are just driving up the prices on these unnecessarily.... i'll tell him i'll back off on the ones i already has, if he give me a chance to pick up the ones i need

anyone else encounter a guy like this.. usually im able to pick up the cards at decent prices, not anymore i guess. anyone else?

thats my rant.. thanks for lettin me vent

I collect a couple players in basketball, and collectors decide to collect my players for awhile and bid things up higher than they should go. I just let them. Because they inevitably quit and then put everything they won away from me back up on eBay, and I end up winning it for a fraction of what they paid.

I doubt that will happen with this stuff, but you never know.

Meh. I don't worry about them. Nothing's irreplaceable, so if they wanna break the bank on stuff I see no reason not to let them. Heck, I'll go so far as to help them spend as much money as they can on cards they should have been able to buy for much less.

There's a new schmuck on the block going by ruinbasehock, who bids insane money on parallels. Outbid me on a MVP gold script Sakic - at $50. Got one three days later on a BIN for $7 (thank you Mike!). He wants to be a twit? Fine. I'll help him be a broke twit.

alrighty.. sounds good... new gameplan:

make him spend as much money as possible until he doesnt have any money left in tha bank :D

his funds seem endless, but i guess EVERYONE has some kind of a limit

Dave

twck comes to mind.

Twck is harmless, he only did those UD patches really, other than that laughable at best.

frogprelude2k or broydeur are good examples (but both sell everything off eventually so even they are limited obviously ;) ).

I notice most of the self-proclaimed big hitters/high-rollers or high end collectors seem to buy a lot, hold maybe 10-15% of their purchases and move the rest for quick profits to fund their PC's in small increments.

Note "self-proclaimed".

There are very few people I know personally (maybe 3-4) that have liquid flow on tap at all times for anything in this hobby. THEY are the ballers, the rest are playing catch up with the Joneses.

Dave, don't sweat it dude, you'll get yours bro, everythign comes around once in awhile!:)

I agree for the most part...however since the cards in my sig are the last ones I need for my master set I wish someone would put them on ebay and allow me to be one of those twits that end up paying too much...or at least wish one would show up here from a smart but not greedy seller/collector(and sell the D.Moore at full book for all I care...maybe 2x since full is only 25.00)
Of course in my case it is a 03-04 set and not 05-06 or 06-07 and therefore less and less are showing up on the 'bay

Yeah, my buddy had this problem with Brianbkls on the Precious Metals set he was trying to build.
The guy paid like $300-400 on the ones that were $100-200.
Made it hard for my buddy to make the set but he finally did.....then the guy sold all of his a few weeks ago! Didn't get half he spent back though.
Can be a major kick in the gut.
Good luck!:)

I feel your pain and am right in there with you. He has also been grabbing all of the ice patches /50 as well which is the set I am working on. When a Kariya goes at over $70 you know something is up. I already had one other guy who was doing the same thing on the ice patches as well. Now I have to worry about competing with two people. Only 30 patches to go and I'm now thinking I might have to start relying on searching every board I can to try to get trades done or sales off of ebay otherwise in trouble getting them.

It's kind of nice if you are a seller, even if you are not the seller of the particular item, if you have one like it it might make somebody else pay more because they saw how much the others went for.

As Far as Twck went last year, I loved that guy, he went for the UD patches aswell as the Trilogy honorary patches, I profited over $100 just from a heatly trilogy and a pronger one coloured UD.

That guy ao57 seems to like a lot of stuff I do.

And so do those lecavalier4 and capsfan30 losers ;) hehe just kidding fellas

I hate NOOBS as much as I hate old-timers who bicker over a couple of bucks especially over $10-$15 deals. I put up a salelist of promos/samples and received a few nibbles and everyone felt the need to ask for a lower price when the deals weren't all that expensive to begin with. That irks me just as much as those with deep pockets.

HOOOOO WAHHHHHHH!:D LOL

I'm of this school of thought. If I paid a certain amount for a card, I'd like to get at least that back.

Sometimes you get a great deal more as the market dictates and sometimes you get a lot less, that's how EBay works.

But in a private sale if someone asks you a price and you tell them the best you can do is such and such price, that's it, unless you agree to come down.

My favorite is "but it sells for this", or "I have seen it at such price."

That's terrific news guy, now go buy it and grab me four while you're at it.

The aforementioned is especially cute when the cards you are selling are seen, oh about as often as Georges Vezina inking up cards, which is to say never!;)

Ok, all done!:o :p

I love that argument. Never fails to make me smile. The 03-04 BAP Ultimate autographs being my favourites. Right after release, a Richard or Orr could be had under $200, Yzerman for $70-80, Sakic around $60, etc. Fast forward to Fall Expo 2004 when they've already dried up and people are whining about the price tags with such laments as "They were selling cheap six months ago!"

Yes, yes they were. So why didn't you buy it then? I see the scenario time and again, and it never fails to elicit a chuckle from me.
