I think that this is Flutie's NFL rookie -
1987 Topps #45 Doug Flutie RC (Rookie Chicago Bears). But I am not totally sure which card is his CFL rookie. Must be with the Lions, since they were his first CFL team. So with regards to his CFL rookie, it seems it must be one of these two from Jogo -

I remember back in the day, since it was the early 90's, that a lot of these were produced. Doesn't seem to be many for sale now. Could be lack of demand or that they are tucked away. Anyway, thanks if you can help.

There's only one CFL rookie- the 1990 Jogo Series 1 - the Series 2 card came out later as demand picked up. In relative terms - 1991 and 1992 sets were mass produced, 1990 - you still might be looking about 2,000-2,500 total sets. They were all produced in set form - although there was a trial pack out where one of the retailers mixed up Series 1 and 2 together and put them out in packs which were really hand packed team bags.

That was still a sharp jump from the previous years when there may have been a 1,000 max.

There's also the 1984 Topps USFL rookie as well - which was a relatively small print run vs the NFL cards of the day - and only available in Factory Sets

Thanks Hama, for the info. on the CFL Jogo sets. As you can see in my sig., I am well aware of Flutie's USFL Topps rookie, but it is a 1985 Topps, not 1984. That card has been one of my top wants for awhile now. Actually also interested in a PSA 9 of the Flutie USFL too, so we'll see what happens.

Regards,

Collin

Sorry, you are right on the 1985 USFL RC - to me the only notable RC was the Gizmo Williams :D

Haha. No worries. Gizmo was a great player too.

Have you ever come across any Flutie Jogo rookies that have been graded? The ungraded one's always seemed to look kind of condition sensitive, so it might be hard to find one in a PSA 9 or 10.

Is this the CFL Jogo rookie?

That one would be the CFL rookie - but as far as grading goes - I don't know if there many examples at all. Most of the time, the individual sets were shipped in the old snap lid cases, the Ultra Pro 100 ct boxes didn't exist back then. And if a quantity were shipped at once to a dealer, they were wrapped with a paper band and stuck into a 660 or 800 count box more often than not. The JOGO sets were all done by one person by that time with help from a few photographers.

Maybe PSA would have some data on that? Can't see any graded from any of the grading companies when I search eBay either. Interesting info., thanks.
