Interesting deal. Are the Panthers clearing a little cap room? Do they expect Heatley to make a come back? I mean, 15 games straight in the AHL without a goal? Really? how is it he can go from a 50 goal man in the NHL to not being able to pot a single goal in the AHL over a 15 game stretch?

I used to like Heatley too, goal scoring wingers are my type of player. After the Ottawa trade fiasco he fell right off the map.

I think the deal was basically Fleischmann (a UFA next summer) for a 3rd rounder, which seems to be the going rate. Heatley is only making a mil this year so he was a throw-in to free up some space for the Ducks. The Ducks have really upgraded their skill in the past few weeks.

To add to this...
1)Number of players stay the same for Anaheim. Maybe they didn't want to add any more players or maybe they were at the limit?
2)Rumor was Florida was willing to eat some of Fleischmann's cap. Instead of doing that, they just took on the salary. As mentioned, Heatley was on a cheap contract and is a UFA so it doesn't really make a difference to Florida.

Now wouldn't that be a nice surprise if Heater light if up with Jags. Maybe not but it's crazy how Heatley has fallen.
