I bought a scrapbook page of 1923 Colgate Football memorabilia off eBay for around $40. When I got it in the mail I knew there was something up with one of the ticket stubs on the page. There were no names on the stub, but it did have S.U. Athletic Association on the bottom. I did some schedule checking and found that Colgate was away at Ohio St that weekend. Whoever put the scrapbook page together went to the Alabama at Syracuse game instead. It turns out that there are a couple fanatical Alabama collectors which let to this auction that ended today... Wow!

And here is some of the stuff I managed to extract from the scrapbook page...

Sweet, imagine a Railroad ride to a football game! From the scores it sure looks like they had a pretty damn good team as well!

Not as good as the 1932 team...
September 24, 1932 St. Lawrence W 42–0
October 1, 1932 Case Tech W 27–0
October 8, 1932 Niagara W 47–0
October 15, 1932 Lafayette W 35–0
October 22, 1932 NYU Yankee Stadium W 14–0
October 29, 1932 Penn State W 31–0
November 5, 1932 Mississippi College W 32–0
November 12, 1932 Syracuse W 16–0
November 19, 1932 Brown W 21–0

Undefeated, untied, unscoredupon, and uninvited. The team actually had their bags packed just waiting for the call to go to the Rose Bowl, but it never came. It went to Pitt instead and they lost to USC 35-0.

What was Pitt's record pre-Rose Bowl?

They were 8-0-2. I believe one was a 0-0 tie against Ohio State, not sure about the other tie.

The Colgate - Brown game was a showdown of two of the top teams in the East as Brown was also undefeated. It was a national broadcast (radio), and the story is that Colgate did not do enough to impress the voters in winning the game 21-0.
