Just have to vent..
Just because buyers spend a lot on a box, ect. does not mean a Vinny Lecavalier card /25 is worth $59, $79 ect... WTF.

And from what I am seeing the last few months u could insert alot of other players in the same place. Hell a Vinny card of /25 is like about $10.
He's ok I collect Lightning, but the prices people are asking is CRAZY of late.

And dont even get me going on all the stammer stuff starting at (my favorite) $91.91 or $101.91 ect.

Does anybody run regular auction anymore at reasonable prices ?

Guys like Phoenix1588 has some cards I need but a card /9 for $200, forget about it ! And they have it reposted like 20 damn times. Guess they do not really want to sell the cards then.
Todays hobby :|
ok, I'm done.

Pete

As a salesman I'm saying FINALLY people are always complaining about how low their cards sells. Now do a break and sell your cards with a profit.

That Phoenix1588 asks rediculous prices on cards, and when i finally bit the bullet on a card i really needed and overpayed like STUPID, he shipped it in a White Envelope with no protection, and when i emailed him and ripped him apart for it, he said its 1.00 more for a bubble envelope. like are you kidding me, then he blocked me, good riddence.

I like seeing that. With the rip and flip people having a harder time making their money back. Many are cutting back on breaking or dropping out. If enough of the them leave the card companies will have to focus collector's. Maybe then we will see less of the super limited cards and a few more sets for team and player collectors.

I understand some people are both collectors and flippers. But it seems many collectors arent breaking much wax anymore and that is one of the fun parts of the hobby. I personally could care less if they ever make another jersey card of the players that I collect and the occasional signature is the biggest excitement I need. A good looking card is far more exciting for my collection.

I am sure there are plenty of rip and flip people out there.but I would rather deal with having a hard time finding the card I want cause the breakers preferred to keep cards cause they are collector's. See sets like broad street bullies.

Honestly, Pete, we probably have no one to blame but ourselves. With the years of you and I battling it out for rare Vinny stuff, people saw this. It wasn't a lone occurrence. Even now that I have been out of collecting Vinny's for damn near close to 4 years or so, people still expect his collectors to shell out big bucks for his stuff, even though the demand has dropped across the board.

The above mentioned Phoenix eBay seller is out of touch with market value and sadly, customer service. He counter offers at nearly the same price as his BIN's and asks a ridiculous amount higher than market value. To bad, cause he's keeping a lot of Leaf cards out of the hands of collectors and at the same time getting nothing in return.

I think that it just boils down to it is free to list on eBay at any price with Best Offer feature.

I know that I take advantage of that. It is like having an eBay store for free. I sell about a card or two a day.

Truthfully now why would anyone want to start an auction at $0.99 and see where it ends? I would rather have a BIN with Best Offer and accept what I want for the card.

I'll come to Andrews defense and say he is pretty good to work with in my experience. He has lots of rare cards out there and the BIN/BO price might scare people/make them scoff, but if you offer away and start a conversation with him...he's usually good about coming down to more reasonable "market value" like prices. Other's may have had bad experiences but I had to put out my two cents as he's always been a pleasure to deal with for me

ebay sellers don't do the auctions anymore because they don't want their cards selling for fair market prices.
If they put up a BIN, not only is it free, but eventually, someone who hasn't done their homework, or a desperate player collector, will eventually offer a stupid price where the seller can pounce on and accept.

With the fees on ebay, they've realized that they can re-list BIN over and over at no cost and wait......

I have only been able to negotiate a good price from Andrew a few times. It's not easy and if you don't approach him the right way you'll probably get attitude back. Also, if he knows you collect a certain player expect the price to be higher than what he would accept from someone else. It really is a shame to see so many nice cards rot in the eBay store getting listed over and over for the same high prices.

hah i remember that phoenix guy have tryied with him a few times and eachtime counter offers on insane amounts. Won a card for like 30$ not too long ago he listed the exact same card and wanted like 120$ with shipping or something.. just crazy... and thats with like 3 offers the past 2 years lol if u havent in that time got a decent offer u probably never will.

I list most of my cards for $0.99 - $2.99 or what ever I would be happy to get with one bid. If it doesn't sell I relist it as a BIN for that amount.

The only ones I list as BIN/BO would be the cards I am not 100% sure on. I list them at what I have seen something similar go for and let people decide if it is a good price or let me know what is fair.

I just find it harder to get anything I need anymore.

lol, phoenix seems like an uptight jackass. based on his prices, he obviously expects to experience breaking cards and then profit as well.

It's been a few year, but I assume I'm still on his block list (which must be enormous). I made an above market bid on one of his 08/09 BTP Mike Murphys and he responds asking where I think I'm going to get a /10 card at that price, so I simply replied "http://www.ebay.com", and then wasn't allowed to make any more counters.

on the topic in hand, more sellers are opting for bin/bo cause cad auctions are going ridiculously low right now in auctions and ebay is allowing 500 free listings a month. things should get back to normal in 2013 when (presumably) the lockout will be over and (presumably) we'll be more limited to free listings again (ie. 50 free).

I'm glad someone posted this thread. I've been talking about this for some time. The whole reason people are listing their cards with high BIN and not live auctions is that they know they won't get much for their cards because cards arn't worth that much anymore.

Interesting thread... Piqued my curiosity to see what the ratio is for my PC guys... Found that over 90% of ebay listings for the Sedins are BIN... Looking at completed listings though where items actually sold its about 50/50 auction vs BIN, and not just for low price stuff, this even applies to the highest-ticket items. Each format has its strengths and weaknesses in my experience... BIN the buyer can play more hardball when they see no one has put in a single offer, while auctions can be a crap shoot. Personally, when I want to move cards (most of the time) I just start at $1 auction and ler er rip... For the handful of cards I'm attached to and am content to keep in my pc unless I get a solid offer it's Bin/bo.

Phoenix1588 may ask for more than other sellers but, in my experience, he pays more as well. I've had good dealings... I've spent more but in return, he offers more than most collectors would on cards that I have.

And maybe the increase in BINs is that the sellers are trying something new to change the market. Many sellers are getting tired of pulling 'the hits' and getting little in return thru auctions. Having some control is never a bad thing.

if you can get the biggest bang for your buck....go for it!!! i am sick of giving away my cards for 99 cents! people complain about the low value on cards...and it is because everyone rips and dumps...kudos to people using BIN OBO more often!!!

LOL. I have started doing this because it seems like the way of the world right now.
And TB you are dead right the more ridiculous my price...the less I want to sell. If somebody figures they need it bad enough they come up with a substantial offer or hit the BIN surprisingly guys have hit the BIN on prices I never expected to get. So why not
