I dont want to beat a dead horse on Ebay fees, they are awful, but I have to ask about the final value fees on shipping. How is this legal? I can understand all the other fees as they can kind of be related to the cost of running the site. Something that pertains to the direct use/management of Ebay. Fee for service I guess would be the simple version. How can they get away with the shipping fee? They dont offer any of that? I choose how and who I use for shipping and I pay for it myself. I'm no laywer though but I would love to know. Maybe a class action suit coming soon? lol. Just kidding, but not really.

If they put it in place..... I'm sure it's legal. Just can't imagine a company that size making a mistake like that.

The claimed it was to prevent people from charging excessive shipping amounts, but lowering the cost of their sales (for example, card is worth $10, and I sell it for $10 + $2 s/h, someone else sells it for $2 + $10 s/h) and there probably was something to that.... I would expect that there were sellers using high shipping costs to circumvent fees.

Really though, I think it's because they wanted a piece of the $3 people spend on shipping.

I completly agree with your post. I just want somebody to really explain the legaleeze to me. As for getting their piece of the shipping, they already get that via the paypal route as Ebay owns paypal I believe. Its like double dipping for them. Before this fee came in on Ebay, all fees could be broken down to a service you recieved. Ebay fees (insertion, picture, bolding, final value, ect, ect) could be directly linked to a service. Paypal, I pay a fee that varies acording to how much money is transfered to me. I get both of those fees for use from the sites and while I do have a problem with how high they are, I can at least understand them because of what I recieve in return. The Shipping fee, while I have no doubt that it was brought in to keep the shipping costs in a reasonable area, is something that they really dont offer a service for in return for my fees. This might be a case of "Lets put a fee on there and see how long it takes for people to realize this isnt going to fly. By that time we'll have made a crapload of money" I had the bank do this to me (sort of) a couple years ago. Out of the blue I recieved a letter stating that the interest rate on my line of credit was going up. I phoned and asked why and was told it was due to a review of my credit score. WTF? I have not missed a payment on ANYTHING in the past 15 years or more. I told them that I was not happy and would think about moving my investments, mortgage and everything else I had with them if they didnt fix this. The Rep told me that they would do a credit check and get back to me. Seriously? You just told me it went up due to my "bad credit score" Long story short, my interest rate went right back where it was. I am sure the bank just went "lets raise interest rates and see what happens. If nobody complains we're going to make a ton of money. If they do just give them the old interest rate and we'll be no worse for wear" Sorry for the long read but I really think we as users are getting worked on this fee.
