Sold an eBay item on June 9th. Buyer paid same day and I shipped same day (USPS Priority Mail... NY to NV).

The buyer just contacted me yesterday (November 10th) saying he never received the item. The item is no longer visible on eBay since it's past 90 days, but I went back to the Paypal payment to obtain the USPS tracking number.

Apparently, the initial delivery was attempted on June 12th, but nobody was home. It remained at the buyer's PO until July 1st, when this happened:

July 1, 2021, 2:29 pm
Unclaimed/Being Returned to Sender
HENDERSON, NV 89012

From that point, it appears it landed at the New York distribution center on July 12th and that's where the trail ends.

July 12, 2021, 5:13 am
Arrived at USPS Regional Destination Facility
NEW YORK NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER ANNEX

Never had anything like this happen (unclaimed) and certainly not with this much time having elapsed.

What (if anything) would you tell the buyer at this point?

definitely an odd situation but I think this falls on the buyer 100%. failure to contact you in a timely manner to notify. It sounds like he is out of luck. Thankfully I do not think there risk of anything towards you because its so old now. All he can do is pray that it arrives to him one day

Buyer is going to be past the deadline for filing on this. I'm surprised they wouldn't have checked the tracking information sooner to see what was happening. I would give the buyer the tracking information and advise them that if it is returned you will resend the card. You might also want to contact USPS and see if they can track it down for you.
