Hi guys,
Just curious if anyone's planning to head over to Seattle for the show? Looks like it will be a good one.

This is my first big comic con, so I'm quite excited. Not really sure what to expect. Unfortunately, I'm only going to be there for the Friday but I'm sure it will still be a great time.

Here's a link to the show:

Thanks,

Yeah. I'm in all three days. Got a commission lined up already with the incomparable Adi Granov, and I'm hoping to add a few more to my growing portfolio. With luck, I can get Humberto Ramos, Terry Dodson and Todd Nauck. I think I'm going to bug Tim Sale for another as well, but I've got two or three I'd love him to do...and I will have to make choices.

Cool Steve! I guess I'll see you around. I was wondering though, how does this work? I'm a bit of a noobie with this whole thing. So you can commission them to do personal work for you? What's the damage on that? Are there any prices listed? For some reason I couldn't find any info.

And out of curiosity, do pick up comics as well?

Thank you for your time,

I don't tend to pick up many comics, though I have been known to schelp a crap-ton of books to get signed.

Here's an example of prices. Nauck is about...middle range:
Todd Nauck's Convention prices

Granov runs quite a bit more than that. Tim Sale does these convention FastPass things in black and white that turn out simply but beautifully for around $300:

Ramos I think is around $300ish, though I might be WAY wrong on that.

Some more thots:

Adi Granov's work is expensive, but hella worth it. To say nothing of the fact that he and his wife Tamsin are wonderful people and I quite look forward to seeing them at shows. They are some of my favourite people I've met.

The same can be said of Bob Layton. For a man who's done as much great work as he has, he is a down-to-earth, personable and fun guy. LOVE Bob to bits. Sadly, he ain't at ECCC this time around. I got this from him last year:

Speaking of awesome people, the folks at Blind Ferret. Ryan Sohmer and Lar DeSouza are hands down some of the NICEST people at the con, consistently friendly and funny. You must ask Lar about Sailor Bacon. And be prepared to be horrified. There's a few other webtooners as well that seem to be regulars - Inman from The Oatmeal, Jacques from Questionable Content, Guigar from Evil Inc (and a host of other stuff), Kurtz from PVP, Corsetto from Girls with Slingshots. All of'em are interesting folks.

You got any questions, feel free to PM me. I'm not the most veteran con-goer, but I'll help where I can.

Wow! That Layton piece is quite awesome! Tim Sale's isn't too shabby either! Great stuff! Thanks for sharing.

Btw, I should NOT have googled Sailor Bacon. I wasn't ready for that. :comp: haha

Anyway, thanks again for your time. I'll give you a shout if something else comes up.

Cheers

I can speak from experience: Lar takes especial delight in the horror and devastation he leaves in his wake. But he remains one of the warmest, nicest people you'll meet on the con floor.

Yep! I'm starting to count the days myself Steve!
My only concern is watching the $...unfortunately I doubt the exchange rate is going to change much now before the show... If I only had a time machine... :duh:
