Bought this last week for a decent price, given the condition the card appeared to be in ... it arrived this morning:

I'm still debating how and where I will have it graded ... I don't have a PSA membership and it seems like a lot of trouble as a Canadian client to go through SGC. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. But for now, I'm going to stare lovingly at this piece of history. It's a great card in fantastic condition, slight off-centered-ness and rounded corners aside.

Great card I'm looking for a similar card like this one from the Habs, I didn't know it was a lot of trouble to get it graded by PSA??? In my mind PSA was the way to go for vintage cards. Do they have a booth in Toronto, if so you could hand to a friend that is going!!!
Nice find anyways!!!

A real beauty. You may want to see if any local shops have an account with PSA. Or, there may be a person here on HI willing to submit it for you. I'd offer to help ut I use BVG for all of my vintage. Anyway, great card!!!

Beautiful find!

As far as grading, I've learned that if you ever intend to re-sell, PSA is the way to go and finding someone to help with submission shouldn't be too difficult. If you have no real intention of re-selling or don't mind not getting a 'maximum' return, I think the SGC holders are much sharper on the pre-war cards. From what I've been able to find out, crossing over SGC to PSA almost always results in an 'even' swap, so if you changed your mind, you'd just be looking at a small fee.

Thanks a lot, Fred ... that seems to be the prevailing theme. I think I'll put out some feelers for someone to give me a hand with the process.

Thanks again!

I sent my cards for PSA grading through an autherized Canada dealer and you don't have to be a member. It does take about 2 months to get back. I used Platinum Promotions, but there are 4 on the PSA web site. Contact them and they will send you the forms to fill out and costs.

Just my 2 cents, but I prefer SGC for pre-war cards. SGC uses a multipoint grading system while PSA rounds to .5 or whole numbers. This can make a large difference regarding price with some pre-war cards (particulary so with the big cards from C55 C56 V304D V145 etc). And yes, the holders are also much nicer. SGC always has a booth for submission at the Expo in the fall and spring.
