Ehrhoff Agrees To 10-year, $40 Million Deal With Sabres

"My goal is to win the Stanley Cup," Ehrhoff said in a statement released by the team. ''And after the offer I received from Buffalo, I believe this is the best place to make it happen."

I dont mean to step on any Sabres fans toes but thats hogwash. He should at least be honest. "It was the truckloads of cash" Ehrhoff said in a statement released by the team "Literally truckloads. What was I supposed to do?"

The front endedness of this contract is garbage as well. The League needs to get these things under control.

Let me see now... You were on a team where the core nine players are signed for the next 3 years or more, and came within one game of winning it all. If that's not a sign of helping you with your goal to win the Stanley Cup, I have no idea what is...

I too do not wish to stomp on the toes of Sabres fans, and I wish them and the team the best of luck, but for Ehrhoff to say this is just silly, given the fact he could have signed in vancouver and had just as much, if not a greater chance, at winning a Cup

Sabres have a very solid and well rounded back end right now, especially if they bring back Montador as well - ignore that, just saw he signed in Chitown.

If that's the contract that Ehrhoff wants, the Canucks are better without him. Forget about the bs about going to a cup contender and winning a cup. It was always about the money. That's why he wanted to test free agency instead of signing back with the Canucks. Supposed offer was 5 years @ 4.6 mil. $23 mil contract. So Ehrhoff himself doesn't think that he can get 3.4 mil contracts in his mid 30s.

The signing bonuses are so stupidly front loaded that it completely favors Ehrhoff. The last 3 years are at at 1 mil. He could completely dog it after year 2. Buyout looks reasonable for the Sabres at year 6. Basically breaks down to a 6 year contract for 34 mil, and a 4 year contract at 6 mil. Sabres buy him out after year 6, he gets 4 mil, Sabres have to take a buyout cap hit of 2 mil over 8 years. So basically he could be getting 6.33 mil/year for 6 years of actual played hockey.

He was obviously looking for long-term and I bet Gillis didn't want to offer more than 5 years. It's a shame he's gone, but Buffalo's D just got substantially better with the addition of Regehr & Ehrhoff. Doubt they can do anything serious in the playoffs, but it's a huge boost to team.

I understand when stars/superstars sign these kind of ridiculous long term deals, but with no disrespect to Erhoff he isn't one and will never be one. Absolute absurdity on so many levels!

Any reasons for this?
