EliteXC Saturday Night Fighs

WHAT A FIGHT, if it wasn't for that ear of Thompson then I had 10-9,10-9 each round going to Thompson, but damn Kimbo got that EAR and TORE IT UP!!!!

The main card was really good in my opinion. Joey Jillasenor getting the TKO win over Baroni was GREAT!!!

Gina Carano's fight was pretty good too. She looked kind of uncomfortable in the first round but did pretty well, and then she turned it on in the second. She landed some fantastic combos and really took it to Katlin, and the doctor stopped the fight between the second and third rounds.

Lawler and Smith was a fantastic fight with lots of back and forth action. Lawler accidentally poked Smith in the eye and the ref gave him time to recover. But instead of telling the doctor that his "vision is coming back and I want my 5 minutes", he told the doctor twice that he "can't see". He has the experience to know better than to tell a doctor that he can't see. The doctors have rules to abide by and when they are told a fighter can't see, for the protection of the fighter, they must stop the fight.

Unfortunetly, the Thompson/Slice fight turned out really bad in my opinion. The new people that we were trying to draw to the sport might really be turned off by seeing Thompson's ear flopping around and bleeding like that. When he hit that ear, it just exploded, it was nasty. Thank God I decided to stay here in Cali instead of going to the show to sit cageside. I could have gotten that crap on me... EEEEWWWWW!

Btw, Gina looked hot as usual!

I think Kimbo would make a whole lot more money if he went into boxing. He is something the heavyweight boxing class needs. EliteXC is aight, but doesn't have the endorsement potential professional boxing has.

Here's a couple of pictures from the EliteXC press conference on 5/19/08...

I also got to talk to Lawler while I was there, but didn't have my camera with me at the time, and Kimbo was gone by the time I got there.

Actually, Smith did tell the doctor he wanted his 5 minutes.

From a hardcore perspective, this was a very fishy card and will likely prompt an investigation by the NJAC.

Correct, Smith did say he wanted his 5 minutes, but he told the doctors he couldn't see. He knows that once you tell a doctor that you can't see durring a fight, they have to stop the fight. He should have either said his vision is clearing up or just said that he would like his 5 minutes. Scott knows what he can and can't tell a doctor. He simply said the wrong thing.

Fishy card? Based on what? There will not be any investigation from the NJSAC.

Actually, they don't have to stop a thing. They are mandated under the unified rules (pioneered in that state, no less) to give the fighter his 5 minutes to recover.

And if you didn't see anything fishy about that card then you are either incredibly blind or incredibly ignorant and biased. Even Bas Rutten (Kimbo's trainer) admitted that the calls in the main event were questionable and he agreed Kimbo should've lost in the second round. The rules state that if a fighter is not intelligibly defending himself or trying to improve his position then the fight is to be stopped. Kimbo took unanswered forearms and punches to the head for about 60 seconds straight and all he did was lay on the mat. Whether the blows were damaging or not the rules dictate that should be a stoppage. Reference the recent bout between Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon for an example of that rule in effect. Lauzon was not taking any damaging blows, but because he was unable to improve his position for over a minute on the ground and continued to take soft punches, the bout was stopped.

Also, Kaitlin Young's fight was stopped by the commission and not a doctor. (which is also contrary to the unified rules) She was cleared by the doctor to continue fighting (and why wouldn't she be.. all she had was a black eye) and after the doctor cleared her to continue a commission member decided she was too beat up to continue fighting on network television. This is directly from Kaitlin's mouth to my ears.

All around a very terribly executed show.

Thanks for the insults. I'm not going to get into any arguments with you over this show, because we saw the show differently. I'm all for discussing the show, but if you want to argue with someone and insult them, take it to another website. We try to keep this site free of that crap.
