So I was involved in a group break of 19-20 Ultimate 1x inner case.

Here was the break down:

2x Retired vets
3x Current vets
1x Current vet update from previous years
25x Rookie themed cards

So from an entire inner case there were only FOUR cards of current Non Rookies- FOUR!!!

So about 81% of the cards are "Rookie type" cards.

This (to me) is just too much. A set like this should be called
"UD RookieRama"
or something like that.

Dumb.

Dumb.

Dumb.

My thoughts. Others probably love it.

End of rant.

I agree. Considering a large portion of those rookies will not amount to anything it makes the product more worthless. I do not see the points in so many rookies. I can understand all rookies being in sets like Upper Deck S1/S2, SP Authentic and The Cup but not every product should be set up in this way. I believe it is complete garbage.

With so much event worn material and no name rookies it really is so little value. I miss the old days where rookies were part of the set and not all the set!!!

Agreed on the event worn comment. Even in Cup now it's predominantly event worn. The pricing isn't going down either.

It still cracks me up that you can open a pack of SP GAME USED and not get a GAME USED card!

I love Ultimate Collection. I collect the base and rookie set every year because of their low print number and hard signed autos. That being said, I stopped buying boxes of it years ago. There's just way too much fluff per box now in my opinion, and the value isn't there for 4 cards at $200+ a box. This year seems even worse, as they've increased the number of rookies to 100! That's a huge increase over most years. Combine that with all the rookie parallels like jersey versions, patch autos, retro rookies and retro patch autos, 4-5 different versions of Ultimate Introductions, Rookie Inspirations, Debut Thread patch autos, etc, etc, etc. My $200 bucks goes a lot further just buying the singles I want.

If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. Really it is that simple. And with the demand for hits across all products and the rise of group breaks, the current lineup of products is the end result.

I don't know of many people who can afford to buy every product, you really have to pick and choose what you want to go after now.

Some of my best pulls ever have come out of Ultimate, both rookies and vets/retired players. I agree that this year’s product seems to be much heavier on the rookies and with an average rookie crop (IMHO) like this year, that’s not always going to give you great value. I bought a pack and all 4 cards were rookie-themed with two autos of rookie defensemen (not Makar or Hughes haha) and overall nowhere near what I paid for the pack in value.

As others have said, I’ll be voting with my wallet and probably won’t buy any more. That said, I do like Ultimate so I won’t rule out picking up a few singles!
