So who is crazy enough to do this?

"Collectors who have a complete 2015/16 UD1 and UD2 Hockey physical foil parallel base set, including Young Guns (cards # 1-500, acquired through combining base set cards) in their collection on Upper Deck e-Pack™ on 8/31/2016 at 11:59pm (PST) will have an exclusive physical Connor McDavid Silver Foil Facsimile Signature achievement card added to their collection on e-Pack.

There is no limit to how many achievement cards you can earn. The number of copies of the achievement card(s) you receive will correspond to the number of complete sets you have in your collection at the deadline."

Considering it looks like a lot of case breakers removed their foil cards from the epacks site I can't imagine their will be too many of these redeemed. If they left the young guns out there might be a few but add in the young guns and wow this would be a fortune to try and complete.

Hey, more benefits you can only get by buying Upper Deck directly from Upper Deck! Awesome!

I wouldn't worry too much about this promotion. Ten of every base card and five of every YG, from both Series 1 and 2, to make a full foil set? That's cases upon cases of both releases to make that happen, all for a foil card that has a facsimile signature and not even a real one. Nobody in ther right mind is going to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to actively chase this card.

Make it a real autograph and yeah, you might have some incentive. A basic insert with a facsimile auto like something you can get out of MVP? No way.

Is a card in COMC the same as a card on the UD site?

It's my understanding that once you transfer a card to COMC it's gone from your ePack account, that's probably why it specifies the cards have to be "in their collection on Upper Deck ePack" by the deadline. And yeah, a lot of folks would have already transfered out or sold the foils they got.

UD's handling of this new program has been one gaffe after another.

The whole ePacks thing won't affect our store too much because we are not group breakers or particularly active case sellers, but any time UD unveils another "only from us" perk for buyers, it's going to bother me (and from the discussions I've had, probably a lot of other B&M stores, too).

Maybe this idea was formed as a reaction to all the rip-and-dump action going on at COMC. It's basically making 15-16 UD1 worthless.

It's actually not that difficult. It's 4-5 cases of each product. Plus, you don't have to trade the sets to earn the McDavid card, you just have to build them both and then you get it for free. If this were a promo at my LCS, I'd do it in a heartbeat. However, there's no way in hell I'm taking money away from the shop that has been good to me for so many years to spend it direct with UD. I hope many others feel the same way

8-10 cases total is a pipe dream for the average collector, so I would say it's difficult enough. It wouldn't sound so bad for a breaker like yourself but it's unrealistic for the vast majority of us.

And the McDavid insert will sell for pennies compared to the five-figure cost of busting all those cases. With the likely low number of these getting redeemed, and the cost involved for those brave enough to meet the requirements, the achievement card should have been signed.

Well, I know it's not an easy task but there are many big case breakers out there. I'm just saying this is totally doable it's just a matter of principle for me. I'll pass on the foils and bonus card even if I could make more money by doing so. I'm not going to support this crap. It's a big pile of B.S.

Now if they release e-pack exclusive products, I'll be more inclined to buy

Right..but from what I am reading you have to have 4-5 cases of each product and then sit on them until Sept.1/16. I'm not sure alot of people are going to be willing to sit on them that long and lose out on the prime resell time.

If that's the case then no one will do it. I thought Aug 31st was the deadline to get the sets completed

That big case breaker has become extremely important to a lot of shops. Losing that guy to Upper Deck is like having 20 standard customers decide to back out of 2-4 box purchases. Even at the crap margins we make, that's paying a big chunk of the rent or the help.

As for the reward, it's not like they are asking you to burn the rest of the cards - it's just on top of everything else. If that's not something you could achieve, I would think you'd be more upset that the hobby is catering even MORE to case breakers rather than collectors.

You only "need" 4-5 cases to hit the YG portion of this equation. You should hit your requirements of base needed to "wild card" them after a few boxes into case number two.

So you should be able to push 2-3 of each silver foil base, along with all the other hits to COMC to still take advantage of prime resale time.

You wouldn't be that screwed. Of course you would be "wild carding" 5 Eichel which will probably sell for $100.00 out of the gate for a McDavid which will eventually settle into the 200-300.00 range. So.......

That McDavid bonus card could be worth much more than $200-$300. It would be an extremely rare card. How many people will build these sets and redeem that card? 10-20 max?

Initially yes, but I said eventually settle into.

It is not going to be a true rookie. More along the lines of a HSHS prize.

Personally I would rather have five each of the YGs. More value there than in one card.

Plus let's be honest, how many of these will make their way through the back door. I have been in this hobby long enough to realize that when there is a high price associated with something, there are more that are going to be released.

Would you not wind up with the McDavid bonus card and 5 of each of the YGs? Sounds like a win/win to me. The only loss being that by the time you were able to get the cards in-hand or transferred to your COMC account the product would have cooled considerably.
