EPack Release Schedule

Yeah UD has confirmed this. Gonna anger a lot of people who are already skeptical of the program when some monster McDavid stuff is on there.

Fixed it for you.

I don't think Upper Deck sees ePack as a short term cash grab. I think they envision this to be a staple in the future of card collecting.

If none of the monster McDavid stuff is on there, they'd be shooting the ePack brand in the foot. ePack has to be perceived as having equivalent odds of pulling good stuff as physical. It will be interesting to see them put a high end brand through ePack. I imagine the customer would get base cards unlike in UD1 and 2.

I think the Epack program is garbage. You all should encourage your local LCS. The only time I bought from Epack is when my local LCS didn't buy/didn't have 15-16 Series 1 in stock.

I was hoping this epack thing would be only in 15-16 because of McDavid and that was UD's way of milking the customers for the cash, but looks like it will continue..

Support your LCS people. They live with that and they do an excellent job (in most of the shops I would think).

That is my opinion.

LOL You are correct with the edit...there's two or three specific cards I was thinking of when I made the post: the Shield, the /10 auto patches, that kind of thing.

I've written previously about e-Pack and how it will--not might, will--revolutionize the way we collect hockey cards and enjoy the hobby. UD has put out some of the metrics for the platform and they say that peak activity on e-Pack is between 10pm and 2am...the nightowls of the hobby need their fix so it definitely fills a need on the part of some guys who just can't get enough opening wax during the day at the LCS. It's no longer just a day hobby.

Nothing can replace the thrill of physically pulling a monster card and holding it in your hands. At trade night last night, this came out of a group case break of Ice. Everybody in the store was pumped about that, even the dummies like me that didn't join in on it. LOL A card like that is an uber-pull, and I just don't think the same excitement can be had from "opening" your e-Pack online. I support e-Pack and its right to exist as an option for collectors, but for me my hobby dollars flow through my LCS when I want to open wax.

There will come a point when hobby shops and distributors will start to revolt. I do not mind the epacks for lower end products like MVP and Series 1 & 2. However, epacks for Ultimate!?

What the hell is UD thinking? That release is a disaster waiting to happen.

I use epack because I simple don't have a lcs I can get to easily. The closest ont to me is 45 minutes and in a different town.
With two kids and full time job that often has me working more then I should it's hard for me to get to.
This is the only way I can open packs.
I do a group break and I don't have cards for a week or mostly get skunked.

I feel the same way. I have to drive 40 minutes to the closest card shop, and I find that to be difficult sometimes given how busy it can get between family and work. The best time for me to do "hobby stuff" is after about 9 p.m., which doesn't work well with store hours.

I was very skeptical of e-packs until I bought a few Series One packs. I didn't get anything spectacular, but I really enjoyed the ease of purchase and the reveal of the cards wasn't all that different to me than tearing open a pack - which, to be honest, gets monotonous after a while. What I really think may give e-packs the advantage going forward is the trading system. There are a huge number of possible trading partners, and with trades being immediate you don't have to worry about mailing, postal problems, etc.

It's going to be interesting to see how UD continues to balance their brick and mortar business with this option. I'm interested in seeing how the Ultimate release plays out.

I am just excited about all the cheap ultimate cards I will be able to pick up on comc when all the gamblers tear through the epacks and dump it there.

I understand the worry of how cards in Ultimate epacks are split with regular packs but I feel better about those than series 1. Most everything worth something is number in Ultimate. McDavid YGS are unnumbered and they could have made as many as they wanted for epacks.

I wonder with the trading forum, how long will UD keep those cards in inventory for? I mean after a few years they'd probably want to clear out old inventory that people are just sitting on purely for trading. Unless comc has ahold of all the cards and it comes directly from them but I don't think that's the case. Does anyone know if they cards can sit in my inventory with UD and for how long? I have a couple of young guns on there that's not really worth the the price of shipping so I just kept it on there in case I want to use them for trade bait with newer releases.

Having ultimate on Epack means it's just one less product I'm going to open, the only products this year I have liked is Platinum. Hopefully they do SPA right.

The cards with the COMC at there US location.

One of my long-term worries on this program is what happens if/when COMC goes belly-up?

I assume UD has a contract for how things would be handled in such an event.

My guess would be that all cards would return to UD so they could run it until they contract someone else.

The ePack system is garbage, except for when you needed it. Got it.

Technically that goes for sand, liver, and bikes with no seats as well. Actually..... most things.

I really see no chance they could ever go "belly-up" as they are a service provider and they only sell a service. Odds are Upper Deck will fold long before COMC. If COMC were to be in jeopardy of failing they would have Beckett at the door in a minute to take them over.
