So, as I said before, Ryan (nyrtfleury014) helped me out massively in getting the Cairns Pens jersey, seller wouldnt send to Europe.
However, when I received the Pens jersey there was no Letter Of Authenticity (as stated in the auction), so I asked Ryan to contact the seller - who got no response.
So I had to take a different direction, so first off I e-mailed Cutting edge Sports who make the jerseys, who put me in contact with Dana Heinze who is the current Pens equipment manager. Dana said that the jersey was before he took over as equipment manager (previous equipment manager was Steve Latin) so the best person to speak to was Joe Tomon which I did. First question he asked me was, where did I get the jersey from?
I told him how I acquired the jersey, then things started getting interesting...
My first concern was, is the jersey real? That was my first question. This is the reply I got;
"The jersey is real. It was from a third set that was used at the end of the season and was to be used the following preseason. The jerseys were stolen by Steve Latin the equipment manager at the time and sold to Lelands in New York. There were quite a few stolen and sold to Lelands that they couldn't put all of them in their auctions so they sold quite a few through the fellow you are talking about on ebay. That is why there is no LOA with the jersey. Hope that helps."
I then asked about the possibility of getting an LOA, he responded;
"I am sorry but when this first happen the Penguins and I agreed that we would not write LOA's on any of these jerseys. We felt that because it came from Mr. Latin it should be up to him to write the LOA. I believe the Penguins wanted him to write an LOA so they could press charges against him. You can always keep my email. It makes for a great story.Take care,
