Erik Karlsson

Just cruising random stuff this morning and noticed that Karlsson is tied with Benn for second in the League for scoring. Has anyone else stopped and thought "Hmm, if Kane wasnt having a lights out season, we might have a D-man win the Art Ross?" Last D-man to win was a guy named Orr, 42 years ago.

now I'm not lumping Karlsson in with Orr but holy poop he is having a great offensive season so far.

Karlsson is the reason I wish defensemen had an award for offense and defense, much like the Selke for defensive forwards.

I wouldn't worry about a separate offensive award for forwards as typically the forward who gets the Art Ross, Richard, etc., wins the Hart and/or Pearson, at least most of the time it works out that way.

We are very lucky to have him here in Ottawa. Anyone who has never seen him play live should. He is absolutely amazing to watch. He's on pace for 91 points which is more than any player had last season...

Yeah but Orr was also +100 he was certainly more rounded than Karlsson. He is putting up some great numbers, I love when he takes his D assignments more serious and throws hits and tries to play D. It would be interesting to see him with the scoring title. Kane better watch out as well, Sid is on fire.

Points in varying eras is apples and oranges. I read somewhere that about 170 points in the late 70's through 80's was comparable to 100 points in today's era.

That aside, Orr was absolutely more well rounded then Karlsson, one of the best ever.
