I was searching eBay and came across this ridiculous Broduer patch:

http://cgi.ebay.com/2000-bap-millen...rading_Cards?hash=item3ca68b72bf#ht_500wt_965

I immediately thought of it as an obvious fake as the NHL shields in the 90's and early 00's were orange and black, not silver and black (like they use on the newer Edge jerseys). What do you guys think? Also, have fake patch cards also turned up in significantly older product?

With the issues going on now, I would say its probably a fake.

However I have seen a couple of patches from that set with the NHL emblem on there also, to my knowledge they did do that for the set that year.

I had a Gretzky from the year before that had a big piece of a shield in it from an all-star jersey.

Another thing to consider is the way they were making the cards at that time - I would think that the card would show significant damage around the edges if it had been messed with, as pieces didn't just "pop out" of those cards.

The back of the card will state exactly what jersey was used to make the card. If anyone has a copy to check that would go a long way.

Hello.

I'm goin' to go againt the grain and say that card is absolutely legit. ITG produced some unique cards in those sets. I believe there was a thread not too long ago, where a Toronto based seller/dealer was selling of a large collection of these Millennium patch cards that contained NHL Shield pieces. Either way, nice lookin' card.

Cheers,

haha! Introducing the new "shady EBay seller checklist":

Ebay seller in 2009 - Check!

Feedback between 0 and 10,000 - Check!

A hockey card for sale - Check!

THREE STRIKES!!!

Look, I'm just saying that for such a unique piece, you'd think he'd have better shots.

If its an ITG card, then I say it is legit, but not at that price.
My only beef is the seller has taken a pic of the card on top of a towel... kind of like Ricky from Trailer Park Boys was selling it or something.

Maybe it is just me but if this is the EMBLEM version, as it says up in the left corner of the card, that makes me think it is legit. Does each one of the EMBLEM versions have the shield?

Thanks for the feedback guys! More likely than not, it's probably real because ITG made some really crazy patches back in the day. The truly sad thing is that because of a few bad apples, I've been taking a "guilty until proven innocent" stance (as opposed to the other way around) because of the all too frequent fake patch horror stories.
