Forever Rivals Sneak Peeks

The Beckett video makes me cringe. Their Hockey Editor can't even pronounce names correctly! And turn on some damn lights.

Really like the base set design! Nice, clean and it has FOIL!

However, not a fan of the designs of the autos. I'll prob just stick to my Superlative Franchise auto set.

Might try a pack or two. Overall, I like it :)

loving the foil, itg did a nice job with these, i for one am a fan of the design, but wont pick any up, maybe they will make a Vancouver set one day,

doubtful hahaha

The quality of the autos is going to be a major consideration for me deciding to collect the set or just going for a few select players. I've chased Decades for 16 months because the autos are nearly 100% smudge- and streak-free with no bubbling. Two out of three on the SCF break are sub-par and not collectible IMO. Not good.

This product is not for me....and not because I hate the leafs....

Personally really tired of ITG firing out these cookie-cutter $100/pack/box products.

Simply, TOOO Many of them. The odd release is fine, sure they are one-off products (of late), but they dont excite.....

...On a side note, other products are out around that time.,.should be good.

See, I would describe the products of the last couple of years from ITG as anything but cookie-cutter. They cover many different niches (some tightly-focused like BSB and now Forever Rivals and some with much broader appeal like Decades 1980s and Captain-C). Each has it's own particular look and feel within the overall ITG branding. Sure, they could try to mix it up a little with the card designs, but it works if they are trying to establish an overall look for ITG products.

Add-in a limited production run on just about every product and the formula for lasting value and (shocking!) actual resale potential on the secondary market is there. IMO, ITG has blown away both UD and Panini the past couple of years and it's a refreshing thing for a long-time collector like me to see.

I respectfully disagree.

While I do like that the premise of each product is unique....Enforcers, 1980s, Captain Cs....so on and so forth.....the contents of each product have the same basic lay out, the designs are uninspired and always have that same look....

Overall the break is routine in each box/pack. I like that they have gone to that foil base set..but if history has told us anything...expect them to use that for EVERY one of these for the forseeable future.

Resale value....UD still is king....

Im not trying to bash ITG, but they are doing this to themselves and card shops say the same thing.....I liked it when the designs were unique, creative (early and mid 2000s).....

I do admit that ITG cards in recent years have become quite boring, and that there are things they can do with the design to make them somewhat nicer.

Unfortunately, they are restricted by the fact that they don't have an NHL license. They are stuck using head shots, and making cards that are all fabric and no photography at all (repulsive if you ask me).

If they do plan a Canucks version in the future, please let it be AFTER they regain their license.

Hobby Insider also received a box of this product and I will be opening it up tonight and posting the results. All the cards from the box will be given away to our members.

I may open it up live on BlogTV tonight so watch for a post announcing that.

Believe me, I used to have just about the same opinion as you do now. I couldn't figure out why ITG would choose to have product after product that is so easily recognizable as ITG - and that's when it struck me that someone at ITG (presumably Dr. Price) is making the conscious decision to build a brand (of which they have done an excellent job) even at what some might say is the expense of design variety. ITG relies on content variation and limited production on these products to add enough initial and secondary value to attract even those who would prefer a more dynamic design line-up. Sbangayan86 makes a good point about the licensing issue, too - ITG must overcome some challenges peculiar to an unlicensed producer.

If ITG is treating this as a business decision, rather than just being incredibly inept and lazy at design, then I can understand the logic and overlook whatever design similarities may occur. As long as I and enough others decide they like what they see just enough to buy the product, ITG will continue to sell-out product and enjoy whatever profits that brings with it.
