Capitals sign Henrik Lundqvist to one-year contract

Henrik Lundqvist has found himself a new home as the veteran goaltender is signing with the Washington Capitals on a one-year deal.

Lundqvist had the final year of his contract bought out by the New York Rangers last week, ending a 15-year reign in the Big Apple. His previous contract carried an $8.5-million cap hit but he was only owed $5.5 million in total salary for the 2020-21 season.

Now does Samsonov give up the number 30 jersey?

Looks like Lundqvist is going to sport #35. :thumbsup:

Canucks sign goaltender Braden Holtby to two-year contract

The Vancouver Canucks have signed goaltender Braden Holtby to a two-year, $8.6-million contract.

An end to an era in Washington. :beer:

Wow. Holtby to the Canucks is huge. And I’m so happy to see Lundy be able to backstop with ovi infront of him instead of shooting at him

Canucks opting for Holtby over Markstrom makes no sense, except for perhaps financial reasons. Holtby couldn't carry Markstrom's equipment bag lately.

Going for a big name on the FA market perhaps?

Rumor is Markstrom is getting a monster deal with Calgary. Glad he's leaving Vancouver. It was hard to cheer for him while a Canuck. Glad he's staying in the west. And glad I'm no longer a Edmonton fan. Apparently they were after him and I would have been sad if they struck out on one of my favorite players and instead went to a rival.
