Felt like writing a bit,... a good holiday story.
I went to the safety deposit box this morning. Picked up my one and only true favorite card in the hobby ever created. I forgot how gorgeous this card was and the joy I had holding it. Was very sad it sat in a safety deposit box at a bank these past few years.
I've met a lot of good people in this hobby after getting back in for 2005-2006 Cup. There's been the good, the bad, the ugly and the very strange all through the past decade. However, I've met one of my best friends through this hobby and on HI.
After spending a few hours on the phone chatting about life and everything not to do with this hobby, we quickly touched on the hobby. He asked if I would consider selling him back my one true favorite card. Without hesitation, I told him friendship over cards anytime. And that if he ever moved it, that I would like a shot back at it.
It was my decision, but I was still sad to know the card will no longer be in my possession. He's far more passionate about the hobby than I am. I get an email from him with his address. Then the kicker - he mentioned he was going to gift me a 15-16 McDavid Exquisite ARP #/97 just because he knew I haven't had the time to look/negotiate for one.
It's not even about the value of the cards. I got sick of chasing high end cards and being held hostage for highest price, fake patches, politics/games, etc.,... it was all very fatiguing to spend my leisure time that way.
It was just a truly refreshing moment when I realize how happy I was just to have a great friend in my life from this hobby.
Happy Holidays and cheers to friendships borne from this hobby!
TL;DR - sold my one true PC card; best friend I met in hobby I met through HI really wanted it back; told him friendship > cards anyday; was sad when shipping it; friend sent an email telling me he was going to gift me a 15-16 McDavid Exquisite ARP #/97 just because he knew I haven't had the time to look/negotiate for one
