Game on?

Still a massive amount of hurdles to cross. Important to understand this is just announcing the format should play resume. In no way does this guarantee play actually will resume. Still a LONG way to go.

Best case scenario games won't start until late July, early August. Draft sometime in October once the season is done, then an offseason of some kind and new round of training camps. Might not see the start of the next season until January 2021.

Then will that be a shortened season or will they try to cram in a full season? What does that mean for 2021 offseason and the start of 2021-22? There could be a ripple effect felt for a long time here.

One thing I thought of is the status of Ovechkin's chase for the goal scoring record. IF this plan comes to fruition and the start of the next season is delayed it might be 2021 before Ovie gets a chance to score regular season goals again, losing months of goal scoring time from the calendar between the games lost this season and the start of the next one. Then, if the next season happens to be shortened (hopefully not), thats even more games lost.

The NHL can pause seasons, move things around, and fit in games in the future but they can't pause time. Ovie will be 35 this September and possibly losing 3-4 months of valuable goal scoring time as he pushes closer to 40. He needed things to go almost perfect to catch Gretzky as it was and this could be a huge setback.

That's why I titled it with a question mark. But as I also said, I hope so. People need sports right now.

I know frontline workers like myself could really use an outlet after long hard shifts. Even more so, those who have lost people to this terrible virus and want something to cheer for, have some happiness and let emotions out in a positive fashion. Lmberjack and cornhole battles on the Ocho ain't cutting it!

Right, I wasn’t targeting you, I’m just saying in general. I’d still say it’s 50-50 at best it’ll actually happen. Realistically, it is NOT the smart thing to do.

If it is meant to be for Ovie, it will happen. If not, nothing to worry about, it'll fall under all the "what ifs" like Lemieux's health with Gretzkys marks, including the fact he got 199 points one season. As far as ripple effect, I think it would likely only, hopefully, shorten next season and things would get back on track as the medical community has time to research and really get a handle on this thing.

Either way, the game will still be great and we will still see records chased. I say we focus on the positive like seeing the Stanley Cup potentially awarded this year, and not worry about all the scenarios.

Man, I really want hockey to come back. But I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere - and if it has been, please enlighten me - what is the plan if a player or team gets sick? I think it's important that the plan for a worst case scenario is explained in advance, rather than a "lets cross that bridge when we get to it".

Bring in the AHL guys? I dunno. Has there been a situation where most of a team has gotten sick with some disease? Have they still played the game with a limited roster or postponed the game?
