@ Leafs Preview

Season series: Second of four meetings this season. Washington won 6-4 at the Verizon Center on Oct. 3 in a game that was a lot more lopsided than the final score would indicate. Alexander Semin scored twice as the Capitals raced out to a 6-1 lead after two periods before the Maple Leafs rallied in the third. Vesa Toskala was pulled after the first, with Jonas Gustavsson making his NHL debut in relief.

Big Story: The big injury story in Washington is no more, as Alex Ovechkin returned earlier this week with a goal against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden and played his first game in a couple weeks at the Verizon Center on Friday against the Canadiens. But the Capitals very much remain a banged-up squad. They added defenseman Tom Poti (upper-body injury) to an ever-growing injury list on the same night 19-year-old blueliner John Carlson made his NHL debut.

Who's Hot: Green had two assists against the Habs, giving him nine points (one goal, eight assists) during a five-game points streak.

Stajan has two goals and five points during a four-game points streak for the Leafs. Phil Kessel had a six-game points streak (five goals, three assists) snapped against the Hurricanes.

Injury Report: Poti adds his name to a Washington list that includes Semin (wrist), Mike Knuble (finger), Boyd Gordon (back), Milan Jurcina (lower body), Quintin Laing (jaw) and Shaone Morrisonn (upper body).

Toronto defenseman Mike Komisarek is expected to be out until early next month after a quadriceps injury landed him on injured reserve. Forward Colton Orr missed practice Friday after blocking a shot in Thursday's loss and was getting X-rays on his foot as a precaution.

WOW Cassie Campell looks like she got in two fights with a weed whacker.

Am I seeing the following?!

- Toskala in net against Washington?

- The Leafs on the secondary CBC feeds on my Bell dish?!

YES!

Neuvirth sent down, Varly in tonight, Theo on the bench.

Andrew Gordon called up from Hershey.

Come on boys in Red, should be an easy "W" tonight!

Yay. Somehow the Caps managed to get at least a point out of this game. 1-1 going to OT. Caps have scored at least 2 goals in every game this year, so hopefully that stat doesn't change.

TOR Kessel - Goal
WSH Fehr - No shot
TOR Mitchell - Save
WSH Ovechkin - Miss
TOR - Hagman - Goal

Toronto wins 2-1.

Fehr shooting first? Really? Just wow. What was Bruce thinking there?

What a putrid effort for the Caps tonight. Varly was the only one that showed up tonight. For the last 2 periods you'd of thought the Leafs were tops in the conference, and the Caps were dead last. Yuck!!

Full marks for the Buds for this win. Dominated the entire 2nd and 3rd periods and Toskala played a decent, but not great game. A.O seemed disinterested most of the game, but he has that one play, one shot, one goal potential that makes him a constant threat on the ice and that was no different tonight. Nice to see Kulemin bounce back from a bad play that led to the loss last game out.

Caps were dead tired after having played Montreal the night before, and it showed. Big props to Varly standing on his head to keep the Caps in the game.

I actually like the move. His wrister has been on fire the last few games, beating goalies all over (if not going in the net). If his stick hadn't broke, that probably would've been a goal.

i have nothing further to contribute that hasn't been already posted so...

go leafs go.

that's all and thank you.
